M&K Sound X12+ Subwoofer
The most advanced subwoofers technologies for the future
New Carbon Fibre Woofer Cones have been developed for all models with ultra-high strength and rigidity to accommodate the added power and excursion of the new X Series. M&K Sound’s proprietary CNC-machined, extruded aluminium Distortion Killer Shorting Rings also guarantee absolute control and distortion-free, exemplary performance in all settings.
M&K Sound’s iconic Push-Pull subwoofer architecture and “reversed double driver” non-isobaric configuration mean that both drivers in the cabinet are ‘exposed’ to room air. Consequently, and like the X-Series before, the X Series models are effectively two subwoofers in one cabinet enabling a further associated reduction in distortion. This is made possible by having one inverted driver in relation to the other cancelling non-linearities to produce totally symmetric waveforms.
The X15, X12 and X10 all feature full 25mm MDF construction and bracing for negligible panel vibrations or cabinet resonances, and increased venting at the base of the woofers mitigates distortion due to air turbulence. These milled cavities also act as convenient carrying handles for installation efficiency
Cosmetic makeovers for the X Series arrive in the form of recessed front baffles and convenient invisible magnetic grille attachment mechanisms. Harmonizing with the bold but Scandi-cool looks of the M&K S150 and S300 speakers, the new subwoofers offer cleaner lines and more discreet curved edges to complement living spaces or dedicated home cinema rooms
A Message from the Inventors of the Subwoofer
“Creating the next generation of M&K Sound subwoofers was not something we undertook lightly. With a long legacy of market-leading innovation to live up to, we are proud to present the M&K Sound X Series, built to bring new force, authority and clarity to the critical bottom octaves for the listening pleasure of serious music and movie lovers everywhere.”
Why Your system Needs an M&K Sound X+ Series Subwoofer
Above and beyond the obvious, simplistic answer: “more and better bass”, the combination of a well designed and conscientiously constructed subwoofer and main satellite speakers offers worthwhile performance advantages that improve overall system performance in many critical areas that are equally relevant for stereo and surround, for movie viewing and music listening
Here’s what happens when you physically separate reproduction of low frequency information from the upper and mid ranges. The most widely acknowledged beneft, of course, is improved deep bass extension, higher deep bass output levels and more control and authority, i.e., your system will play deeper, louder, cleaner, tighter bass.
With an M&K Sound X Series subwoofer, bass is exclusively reproduced by a speaker created and optimized for that purpose only. Removing the burden of deep bass from your main speakers provides major improvements in essential parameters such as midrange purity and accuracy. By liberating your main speakers from handling the tremendous demands of low bass, you also increase their effective power handling capabilities signifcantly, so that they can play louder without distortion.
Because your main amplifer no longer handles deep bass, the amount of power needed to achieve a given output level from your main speakers is greatly reduced (typically -50%). This ensures that your amp remains well within its safe operating limits with considerable overhead readily available as needed. Independent placement of subwoofer and satellites allows you to select an optimal position for each specifc frequency range. The spot that delivers best bass is almost never the one that also delivers best upper/mid performance. With no bass vibrations or internal bass pressure waves in your main speaker enclosures, resonances are eliminated for cleaner, clearer mid and high frequencies.
Since they no longer have to reproduce deep bass, your main speaker cabinets can be more compact with enhanced structural integrity for natural, uncolored sound and a narrow front that eliminates baffle diffraction distortion, resulting in more open, natural, three-dimensional sound.
No matter what some manufacturers may try to tell you, according to the immutable laws of physics: Big bass requires a big box.
Independent Evaluation
THX is a set of performance standards originally developed by Lucasfilm Ltd, the movie empire of Star Wars creator George Lucas, to lay out a set of criteria to ensure that the creations of cinematic artists are reproduced exactly as intended. The THX logo immediately became recognized as a seal of approval for quality-conscious cinema-goers around the world.
In 1991, M&K SOUND became one of the first manufacturers to join George Lucas and his Lucasfilm Home THX program for domestic installations.
Today, THX is the highest independent quality standard dedicated to the accurate reproduction of audio sources in the home. THX certification attests that the component has been thoroughly evaluated by a fully independent body and found to live up to the strictest quality requirements in the audio industry.
M&K SOUND X Series subwoofers meet and exceed THX specifications to deliver music and movies with natural, effortless realism and power.

The M&K Sound X12+ delivers deep extension and surprisingly tight control, thanks to dual 12" long-throw drivers in a sealed push-pull design and 600W RMS amplification. Reviewers like Robert Ebeling III, M.D. praised its low-frequency reach and realism, while Marc Rushton noted the updated X+ range—making it a confident choice for immersive, impactful bass.
Pros
- Exceptional low-frequency extension with controlled output down toward 18–20 Hz, delivering visceral sub-bass with low distortion.
- Strong dynamics and headroom from the high-power amplifier and push–pull dual 12" drivers, producing fast, authoritative transients.
- Comprehensive integration controls (continuous phase, variable 40–125 Hz 4th-order LPF, fixed THX option, XLR/RCA I/O) for flexible system blending.
&
Cons
- Extensive selectable EQ/crossover options and control layout can be confusing to configure for some users.
- Large, heavy enclosure may be challenging to place in smaller rooms or tight setups.
Sound Quality

Bass
92/100
Dual 12" long-throw drivers in a sealed push-pull cabinet, 600 W RMS (1,200 W peak) and a claimed in-room response to 18 Hz (-6 dB ~20 Hz nearfield) point to exceptional low‑frequency extension and control for a sealed design. Headroom limiter and dynamic excursion control support deep, controlled output without obvious compression.
Dynamics
90/100
High amplifier power (600 W RMS, 1,200 W peak), push‑pull driver topology and headroom limiter suggest strong macro- and micro-dynamic capability with good transient control and low compression under demanding passages.

Integration
86/100
Comprehensive tools (continuous phase control, 40–125 Hz variable 4th-order LPF, fixed THX 80 Hz filter, XLR/RCA in/out) provide the means for seamless blending. Features ≠ Integration; add outcome evidence or lower Integration. No review outcome language provided to confirm 'disappears' or 'seamless blend' in-room.
Build Quality
90/100
Robust physical spec (heavy 45.9 kg enclosure, satin finish, extra long‑throw drivers, sealed push‑pull design) implies solid cabinetry and premium driver engineering consistent with M&K's professional heritage.
Features Connectivity
88/100
Well-equipped: balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA I/O, continuously variable low-pass, phase control, fixed THX 80 Hz option, auto power, and driver protection/headroom limiter. These controls offer broad placement and system-compatibility flexibility.
Value for Money
