Big system power, now in your pocket.

Supercharge your DAC with our portable, balanced amplifier. With 18 hours of playtime, 1,000mW output, and optional Bluetooth functionality, the xCAN is the perfect solution for those craving powerful performance on the go.

Makes your music better

The xCAN enhances your music with superior Bluetooth performance, thanks to its ESS Sabre Hyperstream DAC and jitter elimination technology. Enjoy clearer, richer, and more immersive sound, whether you're listening wirelessly or via a wired connection.

Blinding Bluetooth

The xCAN delivers CD-Quality Bluetooth via AAC, aptX and aptX LL with added iFi magic. Stream wirelessly from your smartphone. Bluetooth from your TV to the xCAN. No need for wires. Just plug your headphones into the xCAN at your side. Give soundtracks extra energy. Add oomph to your gaming! Hear the whoosh of an arrow or the full throttle of F1 car in all their glory.

Clever. Curvy.

The xCAN smart battery provides up to 18 hours of playback time (analogue) or 12 hours (Bluetooth) depending on your choice of headphones. That’s one very long train journey!

And finally, check out the curvy chassis and lush LEDs. The xCAN is one lovely lady.

Bluetooth but not as you know it....

For the xCAN and xDSD, we developed a unique solution where the SOC handles only reception, ensuring no conversion or amplification. It supports aptX and AAC codecs for top audio quality with iDevices (AAC), Android devices, laptops, and more (aptX).

The SOC signal, rife with jitter, is sent to an ESS Sabre Hyperstream DAC with Time Domain Jitter Elimination and a discrete oscillator to remove jitter before analogue conversion. This ensures exceptional Bluetooth performance.

Deliciously Crispy

Pocket-sized but potent, the iFi Audio xCAN is a purpose-built portable headphone amplifier that pairs desktop-level power with pocket portability. In everyday listening it delivers a transparent, neutral sound with deep, controlled bass, detailed midrange and unfatiguing treble, plus a broad, well-defined soundstage. Reviewers praised its headroom and punch — ideal for demanding cans — and its quiet noise floor preserves microdynamics and spatial cues. The fluted aluminium chassis feels solid and houses balanced 2.5mm and single-ended 3.5mm I/O, Bluetooth aptX/AAC and an 18-hour battery, making it versatile for DAPs, phones and laptops. Feedback from Andrew Everard / HiFi News, Diego Estan / SoundStage Solo and hi‑fi+ highlights why the xCAN is a compelling value at its price.

hi-fi+

"the xCAN delivers a sizeable sonic payoff beyond all proportion to its modest price."

Pros

  • Exceptional drive and headroom — dual‑mono Cyberdrive delivers up to 1W per channel and comfortably powers IEMs through high‑impedance full‑size headphones.
  • Transparent, neutral presentation with a very low noise floor that preserves microdynamics and imaging for detailed listening.
  • Full, controlled low end and useful XBass II/Presence options that add weight or lower‑mid clarity when a headphone needs it.

&

Cons

  • Bluetooth playback can sound slightly softer or less resolving than the wired analogue input.
  • Glossy, scalloped finish attracts fingerprints and the fluted body makes the supplied Velcro attachment less secure.

Sound Quality

91/100

Multiple reviews note strong transient punch, headroom and "snap and sting" (HiFi News) and that the unit drives headphones to ear‑splitting levels without compression (Audiophile Style, StereoNET). Reviewers report excellent micro and macro dynamics and preserved resolution even at low playback levels (hi‑fi+).

Noise Floor

90/100

Measured SNR >120dBA and reviewer impressions describe a very quiet background—phrases like "noise just bounces off this little headphone amplifier", "music came from a black space" and "effectively transparent" (The Audiophile Man, StereoNET, SoundStage Solo). That evidence supports a near‑reference quietness suitable for most IEMs and full‑size cans.

Headphone Compatibility

92/100

Specs and reviews show <1Ω S‑Balanced output impedance, balanced and single‑ended outputs, and power up to ~1W into 32Ω and claimed support 16–600Ω; reviewers used IEMs and high‑impedance headphones with no issues (hi‑fi+, Audiophile Style, StereoNET). That combination makes it highly versatile for sensitive IEMs and demanding planars.

Build Quality

89/100

Reviewers describe a solid, well‑finished aluminium pocket chassis and reassuring feel despite light weight (HiFi News, Audiophile Style). Minor niggle about the scalloped body making attachment with supplied Velcro less secure (Audiophile Style) prevents a perfect score.

Features Connectivity

89/100

Baseline portable amp features plus extras: S‑Balanced low‑Z outputs, 2.5mm balanced & 3.5mm single‑ended I/O, Bluetooth with an ESS Sabre chip for BT DAC, XBass II and 3D+ processing, long battery life and USB‑C charging. Those additions (BT aptX/AAC, built‑in BT DAC, balanced output, IEM‑friendly low impedance and crossfeed) justify a strong score.

Value for Money

90/100

Multiple reviewers highlight excellent value at US$299/£229 — "sizeable sonic payoff beyond all proportion to its modest price", "reasonably priced", and comparisons placing it far above typical portable expectations (Audiophilepure, hi‑fi+, StereoNET). Strong positive language from several sources supports a high value score.
