HiFi Rose RS201E — compact, tactile all‑in‑one streamer

HiFi Rose – USA’s RS201E is a compact, feature-rich all‑in‑one streaming DAC and amplifier that pairs a responsive 8.8‑inch touchscreen with wide-format playback and generous onboard storage. Its highlights include native MQA/DSD and 32/384 PCM support, HDMI video output and SSD/USB/microSD playback, so it functions as much as a media player as a streamer. Reviewers such as HiFi News, HiFi Choice and What Hi‑Fi? praise the polished aluminium finish and the tactile Rose OS. Sonically it delivers a cohesive, tonally balanced presentation with open imaging and controlled dynamics; bass leans toward a tight rather than deep character, and very demanding speakers can expose its limited headroom. Ideal for buyers who want single‑box convenience, storage and a hands‑on interface.

Audiophilepure

"Everything feels like it was designed to work together and the result is very enjoyable."

Pros

  • Extensive format and storage support (MQA, DSD, 32/384 PCM) plus internal SSD/USB/microSD and HDMI output makes the RS201E a true media-forward streamer/DAC.
  • Responsive, hands-on 8.8" touchscreen and polished Rose OS deliver an engaging, intuitive user experience for on-unit control and app operation.
  • Cohesive, tonally balanced sound with open imaging and controlled dynamics that suits a wide range of music and system pairings.
  • Well finished aluminium construction and neat engineering give the unit a premium feel for a compact one‑box system.

&

Cons

  • Amplifier headroom is limited relative to the 100W claim—practical stereo output into 8Ω is lower and the unit can struggle with very inefficient or demanding speakers.
  • Relatively few analogue/digital inputs (single RCA line input and no coaxial digital in) reduce flexibility for users with multiple legacy sources.
  • Bluetooth implementation is basic (no aptX), so wireless streaming is best treated as a convenience rather than a high-quality source.

Dynamics

86/100

Class D topology with quoted 100W peak but practical stereo/8Ω output closer to ~35W is repeatedly mentioned (HiFi News, StereoNET), and reviewers note it has good punch and controlled transient response for most listening levels (Hi‑Fi Choice, What Hi‑Fi?). Limitations appear with very demanding material or inefficient speakers where bass heft or ultimate headroom can be reached, but in context it is described as energetic and controlled rather than weak.

Soundstage Imaging

86/100

Multiple reviews highlight an open, spacious sound with good sense of order, width and instrument placement (Hi‑Fi Choice, StereoNET, What Hi‑Fi?). Imaging is described as convincing and the unit often projects beyond its cabinet size, though a few listeners perceived slight masking on highly detailed mid/treble material (StereoNET).

Build Quality

86/100

Build is frequently described as solid, well finished aluminium casework with neat internal engineering and a premium feel to controls and UI (HiFi News, Hi‑Fi Choice, StereoNET). A couple of reviewers felt it’s not as heavy or over‑engineered as some high‑end rivals (StereoNET), but overall construction and finish are praised.

Features Connectivity

91/100

Very well featured for a one‑box: high‑res PCM to 32/384k, DSD support, ESS Sabre DAC, MQA, Ethernet/Wi‑Fi/Roon/AirPlay, HDMI output, multiple USB/microSD/SATA storage options, preamp out and 3.5mm headphone out (StereoNET, Hi‑Fi Choice, HiFi News). The major downside called out is limited analogue line inputs (single RCA) and lack of coaxial digital in, which reduces flexibility for some users, but streaming, DAC and storage capabilities are strong.

Value for Money

89/100

At approximately $1,499 reviewers generally consider it a strong contender in its price bracket — offering a lot of streaming, DAC and storage functionality for the money and 'deserving a place on the shortlist' (Hi‑Fi Choice, Audiophilepure, HiFi News). Some note rivals at similar price may edge it sonically or in build solidity, so value is seen as justified rather than revolutionary.
