GoldenEar T66 Tower Speakerwith Powered Bass
Introducing the T Series
The T66 is the first model in GoldenEar’s new T Series. While it boasts several significant refinements of our time-tested design concepts, the T66 is undeniably a GoldenEar loudspeaker, placing beautiful sound and music before all else.
Honoring the Triton Series
The T66 honors the critically acclaimed Triton Series, sharing a similarly tall, slender profile; built-in DSP-controlled subwoofer amplification; and a driver complement comprising GoldenEar’s High-Velocity Folded Ribbon AMT tweeter, cast-basket mid/bass units, quadratic planar radiators, and long-throw powered sub-bass section.
Onward and Upward
Several important cosmetic and sonic refinements distinguish the new T66 from previous GoldenEar speakers. These include a dramatically augmented crossover design, high-quality internal wiring, a new cast-aluminum base and metal grille, and, in addition to GoldenEar’s Gloss Black cabinet finish, a vibrant Santa Barbara Red.
A Solid Foundation
Sturdy, adjustable cast-aluminum base features aluminum feet to accommodate tile or wood floors. Optional spikes thread into the bottom of the feet to minimize energy loss and further optimize sonic performance.
High-Quality Binding Posts — Now BiWireable
Two pairs of binding posts accommodate biwiring and feature improved materials to minimize distortion. Includes AudioQuest’s Direct-Gold Plated Bare Naked Jumpers.
High-Definition Mid/Bass Drivers
GoldenEar’s cast-basket mid/bass drivers feature an improved yoke assembly to minimize distortion and employ Multi-Vaned Phase Plugs for excellent off-axis response.

Deep, visceral yet controlled low end defines the T66: its DSP-driven 500W subs and quadratic passive radiators deliver authoritative, fast bass while staying tight. Coupled with a resolving AMT tweeter and coherent midrange, the result is expansive holographic imaging, tight bass and AMT treble that’s detailed but largely non-fatiguing. Reviewers such as Jim Milton and Philip Beaudette praised its blend of scale and refinement, while its refined finish and built-in subs add strong value.
Pros
- Powerful, well-controlled bass from the integrated DSP-driven subwoofers and quadratic passive radiators.
- Airy, extended high frequencies from the AMT that remain largely non-fatiguing and detailed.
- Wide, three-dimensional soundstage with precise imaging and a cohesive mid/treble balance.
&
Cons
- Positioning and toe-in strongly affect tonal balance and imaging; the speakers can be room‑sensitive and need careful placement.
- Top-end may be slightly bright in some systems/rooms, so system matching and setup matter to avoid a lean/high presentation.

Bass
93/100
Multiple reviewers note anechoic -6dB at ~29Hz and praise deep, controlled, non-boomy bass from the integrated 500W RMS DSP-driven woofers and large passive radiators (Positive Feedback; Part Time Audiophile; HomeTheaterHifi). SoundStage and other reviews describe serious room-shaking authority yet tight control; one reviewer noted backing the level down slightly to avoid excess energy. Overall: exceptional low-frequency impact for the driver/package while remaining integrated.
Mid
91/100
Reviewers repeatedly highlight coherent, evenhanded midrange with intimate, realistic vocals and good timbral fidelity (SoundStage Solo; Positive Feedback; HomeTheaterHifi). A couple of notes about slight lower-mid bloat on some tracks were mentioned (Positive Feedback, HiFi News), but overall the mids are lush, well-focused and integrate seamlessly with the AMT tweeter.
Treble
90/100
The Reference High-Velocity Folded Ribbon AMT is praised for smooth, extended, airy treble with low fatigue and fine detail (HomeTheaterHifi; Fidelity; Part Time Audiophile). A few reviewers warned of a mildly hot top-end in certain rooms or with poor system matching, but most describe the treble as refined, detailed and well controlled.
Soundstage Imaging
93/100
Consistently lauded for wide, deep soundstages and stable, pinpoint imaging—several reviews describe instruments locked in place and a "disappearing" speaker effect (Part Time Audiophile; SoundStage Solo; Positive Feedback). Reviewers describe a large, three-dimensional presentation with excellent layering when the bass level is properly dialed.
Dynamics
92/100
Reviewers report strong micro- and macro-dynamics, authoritative transient attack and slam without strain even at high volumes (SoundStage Solo; HomeTheaterHifi; Fidelity). The integrated DSP and robust sensitivity allow the T66 to convey impact and immediacy across music and movie material.

Build Quality
90/100
High-quality cabinet engineering, improved crossover/internals, premium internal wiring and sturdy aluminum base are repeatedly mentioned (HiFi News; HomeTheaterHifi; Positive Feedback). Fit-and-finish and choices of colors/finishes also earn praise; grille design and non-removable front were noted as design choices.
Features Connectivity
88/100
Comprehensive semi-active feature set: DSP-controlled 500W RMS powered subwoofers, LFE RCA input, sub-level dial, dual binding posts (bi-wire capable) and gold-plated hardware—reviewers emphasize easy integration with stereo and AV systems (HiFi News; Part Time Audiophile; Positive Feedback). The well-integrated sub section and flexible inputs give real-world convenience and tuning options.
Value for Money
92/100
Multiple reviewers call the T66 an excellent value for its price (commonly cited ~$6,900/pair), noting performance that rivals much more expensive speakers and offering unique integrated sub capability (Part Time Audiophile; SoundTheStage; The Absolute Sound). Consensus: strong performance-per-dollar for music and home theater.
