Focal Kanta N°1
2-way bookshelf speaker
With its modern, compact look, Kanta N°1 fits easily into all types of spaces, whether it's presented on a piece of furniture or on a stand. It uses a combination of exclusive Focal technologies to deliver excellent sound performance, with warmth, musicality and depth.
FLAX AND BERYLLIUM COMBINATION
For the first time with Kanta, a Flax (French linen) cone driver has been combined with a Beryllium tweeter in a Focal loudspeaker! Flax brings clarity and precision to the sound; Beryllium offers incredible treble finesse.
MODERN FINISHES
Mat fronts (Black, Ivory, White) are combined with Black High Gloss, White High Gloss or Walnut High Gloss bodies, offering a wide choice of contemporary combinations. Sophisticated, the Matte effect "absorbs" light rather than reflecting it, creating a refined contrast with varnishes.
FOR SOUND AND DESIGN
Thanks to Focus Time, all the loudspeakers are at the same distance from the ear. The modern, disruptive character of the loudspeaker is underlined by a one-piece molded wood rear shell, a Zamak base, a glass plate, discreet magnetic fabric holders...

STAND FOR KANTA N°1
Optional feet (height adjustable from 61.5 to 64.1 cm) in matt black aluminum are available for Kanta N°1 bookshelf speakers. These are attached to the base to prevent vibration and ensure optimum stability (decoupling spikes and glides supplied).

The Kanta N°1 delivers a surprisingly expansive, holographic soundstage and pinpoint imaging from a compact standmount, pairing a fast beryllium tweeter with a flax mid/bass for natural vocals and lively rhythmic snap. Reviewers note refined highs, strong mid clarity and engaging dynamics despite limited deep bass; SoundStage Solo highlights its air and neutrality, making it a superb compact high-end option.
Pros
- Wide, holographic soundstage with precise image placement that belies its compact size.
- Natural, well-resolved midrange and vocal clarity that reveal low-level detail and timbre.
- Fast, airy treble and strong rhythmic snap — lively, engaging dynamics for most programme material.
&
Cons
- Limited deep-bass extension below ~40Hz; a subwoofer is needed for truly subterranean bass.
- At very high SPLs the speaker can show slight compression or dynamic limitation compared with larger designs.

Bass
89/100
6.5" Flax mid/bass in a bass-reflex cabinet gives punchy, well-textured upper bass and a pleasing warmth; reviewers repeatedly note excellent upper-bass impact and room-aided extension but a clear roll-off below ~40Hz (needs a sub for subterranean bass).
Mid
93/100
Multiple reviews praise natural timbre, vocal clarity and instrument body ('clean and accurate timbre', 'very natural', 'wealth of percussive detail'), indicating outstanding midrange resolution and presence.
Treble
91/100
Fast IAL3 beryllium tweeter yields speed, air and detailed highs ('speed of the beryllium tweeter', 'detailed but refined'); some reviewers note a lively/forward high end if set up poorly but generally refined and controlled.
Soundstage Imaging
94/100
Consistently praised for holographic staging and image specificity ('music seemed to emerge from the very air', 'completely detached', 'big soundfield'), producing a wide, deep and well-focused soundstage for its size.
Dynamics
91/100
Reviewers note excellent transient snap, rhythmic drive and dynamic swing ('snap', 'fleetness of foot', 'tremendous dynamic swing') though one noted slight compression only at very high SPLs.

Build Quality
92/100
High-quality finish, well-engineered cabinet and premium drivers (Flax cones, IAL3 tweeter); reviewers repeatedly call out attractive, robust construction and thoughtful crossover implementation.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Passive bookshelf baseline applied: single-post passive speaker; crossover uses quality components and a foam port plug is provided, but no active/DSP features (passive baseline = 80).
Value for Money
73/100
Performance is high for a compact standmount, but reviewers place it solidly into high-end price territory (reviews cite $5,999–$6,590 and product metadata lists ~4,299), making it a premium purchase; judged good but expensive compared with lower-cost alternatives.
