The distinctive style of YB Mk II may be a masterpiece of sleek design, as with all the Estelon products, but it is also a triumph of “form follows function”. With an emphasis on lines and surfaces, as opposed to the X-Series’ organic curves, the resulting Y shape, from which the YB name derives, is obtained by the system’s asymmetric driver positioning.
The newly upgraded YB Mk II contains new crossover and cabling and it's now coming in the same marble based composite cabinet for a quality of sound that immerses the listener in both the technical brilliance and the emotional ebb and flow of the audio experience.

The Estelon YB Mk II loudspeakers use a sealed box concept, which is more compact compared to the bass reflex concept and is less demanding regarding the positioning requirements in a room. The bass is nimble, accurate, and with an authentic timbre.

Estelon engineering took many years of research and testing to find the right material that would allow the highest quality of cabinet and construction for the loudspeaker’s acoustically engineered complex shape. We developed a proprietary marble-based composite material and special moulding technology to be able to make cabinets with such advanced surface geometry, inside and out. The cabinet is extremely rigid, highly dense, resonant-free, and with exceptional internal dampening and acoustical control.

The tweeter is a 25 mm (1 inch) beryllium “Illuminator” driver from Scan-Speak. This very stiff and lightweight dome enables the driver to have very low distortion, high sensitivity and near-perfect impulse response. The break-up modes occur well outside the human hearing range.

The mid-woofer is a Scan-Speak “Revelator” 148 mm (5.8 inches) sliced paper cone. The slices are filled with proprietary damping glue, which reduces and modifies the break-up modes behaviour in the diaphragm. This leads to a flat frequency response and less distortion in the mid-range frequencies.

The woofer is a 220 mm (8.6 inches) SEAS unit. The lightweight and stiff aluminium cone provides tremendous bass precision. The cone and the low-loss rubber surround, show no sign of the familiar cone edge resonance and distortion associated with soft cones.

The combination of the heavy and rigid marble-based material, curved shapes, and internal bracing suppress the cabinets inherent resonances to practically non-existent levels. The drivers have everything to support them to perform their absolute best.

The chamber of the mid-woofer and tweeter driver is isolated and constructed by the same principles as the woofer chamber, free from resonances and well dampened.

The bass driver is positioned at an angle, facing the other loudspeaker. In smaller rooms, the loudspeakers are often located near the sidewalls and part of the midrange frequencies reflect on the walls and add colouration to the sound. The stereo image can also be impaired. The angled woofer position assists in reducing these reflections so that the audio signal remains purer with more uniform bass propagation. For this reason, the left and right speakers are in a mirror-like position.

The Experience

“These speakers convince with their well-conceived design, enriching any interior with their striking sculptural appearance”, Red Dot jury

With their asymmetrical design, the Estelon Model YB speakers are a prime example of a functional design approach. The cabinets are moulded from a marble based composite material and shaped to optimise sound quality. The placement of the drivers in the cabinet is also well thought out: the mid-woofer is positioned above the beryllium driver to minimise sonic reflections from the floor. The wider speaker base accommodates the bass driver with aluminium diaphragm. Since the woofers are angled towards each other, they can be placed close to a wall even in smaller rooms without having to cope with overlapping sound.

Deliciously Crispy

Estelon YB delivers a vast, three-dimensional listening experience driven by an expansive soundstage, articulate, tight bass and a silky yet detailed beryllium tweeter. The dense marble-based composite cabinet and premium parts yield coherent imaging and slam without distortion — reviewers praised its musical neutrality and high-resolution detail (Jason Thorpe, Eric Teh).

SoundStage Solo

"The YBs projected a palpable soundstage full of depth and, well, vigor."

Pros

  • Expansive, three-dimensional soundstage with precise instrument placement and convincing depth.
  • Tight, well-controlled bass with good extension and musical slam from the sealed 8" woofer.
  • Silky, extended treble from the beryllium tweeter that resolves fine detail without fatigue.
  • Inert, luxury-grade marble-based composite cabinet and premium crossover/wiring that minimize coloration and support neutrality.

&

Cons

  • Moderate sensitivity (86 dB) and 6 Ω nominal impedance — benefits from powerful, well-matched amplification and careful setup.
  • Supplied driver grilles are visually and sonically intrusive; reviewers commonly removed them.
  • Some listeners report a pronounced 'snap awake' threshold and reduced low‑level presence, so quiet listening can feel less engaging without break‑in or higher levels.

Sound Quality

92/100

Bass

93/100

Multiple reviewers praise deep, sonorous and tightly controlled low end from the sealed cabinet and 8" woofer; it fills rooms without boom. Reviewers described a ‘vice-like grip’ and ‘surprisingly deep’ extension for its size, with only occasional notes that very low-volume listening can be understated.

Mid

92/100

Consistently lauded as subtly warm, richly detailed and tonally accurate; vocals retain natural body and presence. Reviewers reported convincing timbre and no crossover-region grit, producing an engaging, musical midband.

Treble

90/100

Beryllium tweeter delivers extended, highly detailed highs that are silky and non-fatiguing. Critics noted excellent extension and speed with controlled energy—detailed yet gently recessed enough to avoid sibilance.

Soundstage Imaging

93/100

Reviewers repeatedly praised wide, deep and stable soundstaging with precise instrument placement; the speakers 'vanish' acoustically. Imaging was described as vivid and coherent, creating large, believable soundscapes.

Dynamics

90/100

Excellent macro- and micro-dynamics when driven; the speakers tolerate high levels without compression or distortion. A few notes about a threshold where they 'snap awake' means very low-level dynamics can be less energetic unless volume/amp choice is correct.

Build Quality

94/100

One-piece, marble-based composite cabinets, premium crossover parts and Kubala-Sosna internal wiring noted across reviews. Finishes and mechanical execution described as luxury-grade and resonance-free, supporting the speaker's neutral tonal character.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive single-pair binding posts (Cardas) and standard passive speaker specs applied. Baseline passive-bookshelf/stand rule used; no biwire/extra connectivity options present.

Value for Money

80/100

Performance is highly praised relative to its asking price (reviewed at $22,500/pair and noted as the least expensive in Estelon's range), but the absolute cost remains high. Reviewers call it not cheap yet outstanding; strong performance mitigates price but does not make it a budget value.
