Immerse yourself in exclusivity and absolute elegance with the Planet L Gold Edition, a set of four never-before-seen shades: the Mercury Ice Gold, the Mars Lava and the now-celebrated "80ᵉ anniversary edition", each embellished with a gold base and grille.

The anniversary version of the Elipson Planet L loudspeaker, celebrating the brand's 80th anniversary, is offered in a limited edition with an elegant matte black and gold finish. It features an upgraded speaker filtering system, with higher-end audiophile components than the standard version.

Thanks to these improvements, the Planet L 80th anniversary delivers a more immersive and dynamic sound experience with more energy and impact in the bass, more details in the high frequencies, and better reproduction of high harmonics.

This speaker is equipped with a 2-way coaxial medium/bass driver of 6.5 inches (165 mm) in a bass-reflex enclosure with a 25 mm dome tweeter. For this anniversary series, Elipson has optimized the speaker filtering system by using higher-end audiophile components. The filtering system for the low frequencies of the Planet L 80th Anniversary incorporates an inductance with a larger cross-sectional conductor, reducing the series resistance for better bass control while providing more energy and impact.

The higher voltage MKP-type polypropylene capacitors provide richer high frequencies while preserving the integrity of the overall sound message. This design also ensures better tracking of high harmonics. Finally, metal oxide resistors ensure that the incoming signal is conveyed without alteration.

Optional Wall Mount and Ceiling Mount brackets allow for wall or ceiling installation. Whether in stereo or 5.0 or 5.1 home cinema (with the Elipson Planet Sub subwoofer, for example), the Planet L easily adapts to all configurations thanks to its supplied table stand and optional dedicated speaker stand

Rating for [object Object]

Nicely Roasted

As HiFi Choice observed, the Planet L’s standout trait is an uncanny tendency to vanish in the soundstage, delivering exceptional imaging and a coherent single-source presentation. Its concentric driver and revised crossover provide a natural, forgiving midrange, controlled dynamics and refined treble, paired with premium build and distinctive finishes—perfect for tonally focused listeners.

HiFi Choice

"The key attribute is a spectacular disappearing act."

Pros

  • Exceptional imaging and soundstaging that makes the speakers disappear into the performance, producing precise focus and layering.
  • Natural, uncoloured midrange that renders voices and instruments accurately and remains forgiving on lesser recordings.
  • Upgraded passive crossover components and a concentric driver deliver coherent integration, strong micro/macro dynamics and impressive musical drive.
  • Beautifully made Gold Edition finishes and higher-spec crossover parts (MKP caps, larger inductor) underline premium build quality.

&

Cons

  • Bass extension is respectable but lacks the weight and slam offered by some rivals at this price point.
  • Treble/control can harden slightly when pushed to very high listening levels.

Sound Quality

90/100

Bass

85/100

Reviewers call bass extension "respectable" but note rivals at this price have more weight and impact. With a 6.5" coaxial driver and quoted 48Hz response/ported cabinet, extension and control are good for the driver size but not the class-leading low-end slam some competitors offer.

Mid

92/100

Multiple comments praise a "natural and largely unembellished tonality" that makes voices and instruments sound correct; reviewers also note forgiving, refined presentation on poorer recordings, indicating excellent midrange timbre and presence.

Treble

88/100

Treble is generally refined and detailed; the speaker only "hardens up a little" at uncivilised volumes. Overall extension and refinement are strong with minimal harshness in normal listening levels.

Soundstage Imaging

94/100

Reviewers highlight a "spectacular disappearing act" and superb concentric-driver imaging; the Planet L often sounds like a single, centrally focused source and makes speaker location tricky to discern—outstanding staging and focus for the form factor.

Dynamics

90/100

The revised crossover helps the speaker "hang together" with faster, complex tracks and delivers real drive and engagement; only at very high, unrealistic levels does control degrade, indicating strong micro/macro dynamics for its size.

Build Quality

92/100

Described as "beautifully made and finished" even at the higher asking price; crossover uses higher-spec components (MKP caps, larger inductor, metal-oxide resistors) and overall fit/finish is praised.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive bookshelf baseline applied. Quoted sensitivity (90dB/1W/1m) and improved passive crossover parts are noted, but no bi-wire, DSP or extra connectivity options are present.

Value for Money

82/100

At ~£999 the speaker offers exceptional imaging, refined midrange and premium build, but reviewers note rivals at this price deliver more bass weight; solid value for buyers prioritizing tonal accuracy and staging rather than maximal low-end.
