Locked inside those record grooves is the most realistic and natural sound one could ever experience. The Momentum Phonostage extracts every last bit of music hidden in this microscopic landscape. Combining the finest possible analog circuitry with the precision of digital control, this phonostage offers vinyl lovers unmatched flexibility and unrivaled reproduction of audio’s most enduring recorded medium.

Advanced Materials and Confident, Uncluttered Design

Front panel pushbuttons control gain, loading for MC and MM cartridges and record EQ curves. The AC power supply may be the cleanest ever created for a phono preamp, with enough inputs to handle multiple tonearms and turntables. Meanwhile, uncompromising parts selection and advanced construction ensure performance that is the equal of every other component in the Momentum Series.

The Most Delicate Signal

The challenge of preserving the most delicate low-level audio signal generated by the phono cartridge, as it makes its way to the phono preamplifier, and through the pre- and power amplification stages to the loudspeakers is a daunting one. The Momentum Phonostage is the result of tackling the pursuit of what seemed like the unattainable in a phono preamplifier. With the Momentum Phonostage, every last bit of microscopic musical information on the finest vinyl records is preserved intact. Paired with the Momentum C2 Preamplifier and the Momentum MxV Series amplifiers leaves only wonder and awe.

Incredible Flexibility and EQ

The Momentum Phonostage combines the finest possible analog circuitry with the precision of digital control. Every adjustment can be made from the front panel, each with its own LED readout. Pushbuttons on the front panel precisely control gain, resistive loading for the two MC inputs, resistive and capacitive loading for the two MM inputs. Importantly, the user has the ability to fi ne-tune record playback through the selection of a variety of record EQ curves used by recording studios from the beginning of phonography.

The Momentum Phonostage features four inputs to accommodate multiple tonearms and turntables. It has two moving-coil inputs and two moving-magnet inputs, each with XLR and RCA jacks, plus XLR and RCA outputs.

Power, Pure and Not So Simple

Knowing that even the best circuitry is no better than the electricity that powers it, the Momentum Phonostage uses a special AC power supply. Not one but two separate power supply components: a transformer that sits on the floor, and power rectification and regulation circuits built into the base on which the Phonostage sits. Thus, the sensitive phono preamp circuits are double-isolated from the transformer electrically, and also separated by a safe physical distance.

The Momentum Phonostage was born without limitations to support the most dedicated listeners with substantial record collections.

Dan D'Agostino Momentum Phonostage — Quiet, authoritative vinyl performance

The Momentum Phonostage pairs razor-sharp resolution with an exceptionally low noise floor to reveal micro-detail, dynamics and a wide, stable soundstage. Ultra-low noise and superb transparency are hallmarks noted by reviewers such as Mohammed Samji and Audiophilepure. Sonically it blends a slightly warm, musical midrange with taut, powerful bass and clean top-end extension, delivering convincing instrument weight and spacing.

Key strengths include selectable passive EQ curves (RIAA, Columbia, Decca, DGG, RCA), comprehensive loading options, dual MM/MC support with 70 dB MC gain, and a fully differential FET front end fed from a separate transformer chassis for isolation and low noise. The build is meticulous and serviceable, with per-input memory and an intuitive front panel—ideal for high-end analog systems that demand both flexibility and fidelity.

Part Time Audiophile

"I didn’t think I could elevate my rig, but the D’Agostino Momentum Phono proved me wrong."

Pros

  • Exceptionally low noise and transparency, producing a "pitch-black" background and revealing micro-detail.
  • Extensive EQ and loading flexibility—five selectable equalization curves plus 16 resistive and 16 capacitive loads—makes it compatible with a wide range of pressings and cartridges.
  • Outstanding dynamics and authoritative bass impact, delivering strong transient punch and layered, musical presentation.
  • Top-tier engineering: three‑chassis transformer isolation, a fully differential FET input stage and military‑grade components for low noise and long-term reliability.

&

Cons

  • Switch for balanced vs unbalanced on the rear panel is inconveniently located if you swap tonearm cables frequently.
  • Separate power/transformer ‘black box’ requires careful placement and adds setup complexity compared with single‑chassis designs.

Transparency

93/100

Multiple reviewers praised an extremely quiet background and exceptional RIAA accuracy: Part Time Audiophile called the background "pitch black" and reported the "quietest performance to date" with an MC cartridge, while Audiophilepure highlighted the Momentum's transparent window onto the recording and said it 'won' in transparency. The specification of <60 nV equivalent input noise and the separated transformer three-chassis design underpin these impressions, supporting a very low noise floor even at high MC gain.

Sound Quality

92/100

Both reviews emphasize dynamic retrieval and liveliness: Audiophilepure stated the Momentum 'won' in dynamics, and Part Time Audiophile called its ability to 'dig deep into those grooves' and render micro-dynamics 'breathtaking.' The design choices (separate transformer, differential architecture) and reported transient clarity support strong punch and micro-dynamic resolution.

Cartridge Compatibility

94/100

Fully supports both MM and MC with 50 dB (MM) and 70 dB (MC) gains and offers 16 selectable resistive loads for MM and MC plus 16 selectable capacitive loads for MM; two pairs balanced XLR and one pair RCA per input and support for two MC and two MM cartridges simultaneously. Reviewers highlighted per-input setting storage and an intuitive front panel, making it highly flexible and suitable for virtually any cartridge, including very low-output MCs.

Build Quality

95/100

Reviewers note heavy-duty construction ("500+ parts"), military-grade components, a three-chassis layout to physically and electrically isolate the transformer, and careful hand assembly taking roughly two weeks. The differential end-to-end design and separate transformer chassis signify top-tier engineering and excellent shielding for low-level signals.

Value for Money

89/100

At the $35,000 price, reviewers positioned the Momentum as a high-end, premium product but one that justifies its cost in performance: Audiophilepure compared it directly to the ARC Reference Phono 3 (finding the Momentum superior in dynamics/transparency though slightly less 'ripe'), and Part Time Audiophile purchased the review sample after experiencing what he called the quietest, most resolving performance in his room. For buyers in this echelon the reviewers' praise and the buyer endorsement make a strong case that the cost is defensible in its class.
