Easy to Position

The wide dispersion pattern of the drivers ensures well-integrated sound that drastically reduces off-axis harmonic distortion.

Contemporary Design

The rounded edges and grille fabric add a lighter and more contemporary look, enhanced by the elegantly shaped aluminium base on the floorstanding models.

Wood Fibre Cones

The stiff, lightweight structure of the reinforced wood fibre cone reproduces details that are uncoloured and highly accurate.

Patented SMC

The woofer magnet's iron pole-piece includes a patented SMC disc that greatly reduces mechanical distortion for a relaxed midrange and lots of detail.

EASY INTEGRATION

Well-integrated sound, even off axis

The OBERON 9 delivers the very best in deep bass and large room performance. Despite its size, this speaker is surprisingly delicate and will impress with its ability to render natural, lifelike music of any style, even at lower volumes. Both the driver materials and speaker geometry have been selected to achieve a wide dispersion pattern – we've applied the same principles to the crossover design. As a result, you'll experience amazingly well integrated sound, even when listening at a significant off-axis angle.

NEW WOOD FIBRE CONE

Optimised with new wood fibre structure

The OBERON 9 features a dedicated 7" midrange driver supported by twin 9" bass woofers. All three low loss drivers are optimised with a new wood fibre structured cone dedicated to reproducing the delicate midrange and bass frequency area. Constructed from a blend of fine-grain paper pulp reinforced with wood fibres, the woofer creates a stiff, yet lightweight structure. And when combined with the low loss surround and spider suspension, the OBERON 9 woofer reproduces the most minute details in the signal, unfiltered and with high accuracy.

REDUCING DISTORTION

Patented SMC (Soft Magnetic Composite)

The use of SMC (Soft Magnetic Composite) in the OBERON 9 greatly reduces mechanical distortion caused by hysteresis and eddy currents. The result is a magnet motor system with a drastic reduction in third-order distortion, which allows the OBERON 9 to deliver extended listening pleasure, a relaxed midrange and a surprising amount of detailing in its class.

OVERSIZED SOFT DOME

Combining proven technologies & features

The oversized 29 mm ultra-lightweight soft dome tweeter was specifically developed for the OBERON series, combining well-proven technologies from our existing DALI ranges with new features. The large size of the membrane lets the tweeter generate higher sound pressure with less excursion, keeping the voice-coil motion to a controlled minimum. The tweeter front plate near the dome has been designed with similar geometry to the OPTICON and RUBICON tweeters to create the optimal working conditions for the soft dome. This results in extended frequency response, wide dispersion and low colouration.

OPTIMISED CABINET

Cabinet design beyond 'just' good looks

The OBERON 9 cabinet is constructed from a high density, CNC machined MDF board dressed in high-grade vinyl. The extremely rigid structure is achieved with solid bracings across the inside of the cabinet, which practically eliminates cabinet resonance. The bass ports at the rear of the cabinet optimise room integration by using a rear wall surface to improve bass performance. The elegantly shaped aluminium base also gives the floorstanding OBERON 9 a lighter, elevated look.

Overall Score 92/100

Rating for [object Object]

Deliciously Crispy

Deep, authoritative bass anchors the OBERON 9’s presentation, while a wide, airy soundstage and precise midrange make vocals and acoustic detail sing. DALI’s three-way architecture delivers controlled, low-distortion output and high SPL capability, yet these towers remain surprisingly easy to drive. Reviewers from HomeTheaterHifi and What Hi‑Fi? highlight its combination of punch, refinement and excellent value.

HomeTheaterHifi

"For just $2,500, the DALI OBERON 9 floor-standing speaker delivers a high-end full-range speaker experience that easily rivals that of any speaker costing three times as much."

Pros

  • Deep, tuneful bass with near-subwoofer extension and low measured distortion
  • Dedicated three-way topology and mid driver deliver clear, well-textured midrange and vocal clarity
  • Expansive, well-dispersed soundstage that fills larger rooms with solid imaging

&

Cons

  • Requires a large listening room or distance to avoid overbearing bass and achieve balance
  • Not as rhythmically precise or micro-dynamically subtle as the very best floorstanders

Sound Quality

93/100

Bass

95/100

Dual 9" woofers and dedicated cabinet sections produce deep, authoritative bass; reviewers report in-room extension below 25Hz and subwoofer-like chest impact with low distortion. A few measurements note missing the extreme 16Hz hits, but overall reviewers describe subwoofer-level output and clean control, justifying an excellent rating within the large-tower band.

Mid

94/100

Three-way topology with a dedicated mid driver yields clear, well-textured vocals and natural timbre; multiple reviews call out crystal-clear vocal presentation and coherent midrange integration. The dedicated mid cabinet and crossover implementation are repeatedly praised, supporting a very high midrange score.

Treble

91/100

29mm soft-dome tweeter provides refinement, broad dispersion and controlled upper frequencies; reviewers note air and lack of harshness while also indicating detail is very good though not 'class-leading'. Overall treble is refined and well-behaved, earning a high score.

Soundstage Imaging

92/100

Consistently described as wide, expansive and capable of large-scale imaging when given room to breathe; reviewers mention excellent dispersion and an expansive soundstage but note it needs adequate listening distance/room size to fully bloom. Strong width and depth with good image focus when positioned correctly.

Dynamics

89/100

Impressive macro-dynamics and high SPL capability — reviewers say the speakers can be driven very loud with little strain and offer forceful large-scale dynamics. Some critiques mention less refinement in rhythmic precision and subtle micro-dynamic nuance compared with top-tier rivals, hence slightly lower than the absolute top.

Build Quality

92/100

Well-made MDF cabinets with internal splits for separate driver compartments and an integrated aluminium base; drivers use DALI's wood-fibre cones and the fit/finish is described as elegant. Construction and crossover implementation are noted as solid and appropriate for the design.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive baseline applied. Speaker is a passive three-way (no DSP/app), rated 90.5dB sensitivity and 4Ω nominal impedance; conventional crossover at 780/3,400Hz noted in reviews.

Value for Money

95/100

Multiple reviewers (cited at ~$2,499–$2,500) explicitly state performance exceeds the asking price and rivals speakers costing much more; given that consensus and the speaker's full-range capability, value is rated extremely high. (Product metadata lists a different price; scoring follows reviewer pricing and commentary.)
