Chario Academy Sonnet
ACADEMY
SONNET
2 way Bookshelf
Listening to music on small-sized systems is a reasonable and quite understandable preference, given that they are easily installed in many venues.
Although the compromises required make this sort of design almost impossible, Sonnet offers a solution to bypass the Laws of Physics.
To integrate this strict definition, while we can safely say that we perform miracles to do our best at Chario Loudspeakers, we are nonetheless proud to say that we are strangers to miraculous designs.

An image speaks more than a thousand words ... impressive Sonnet is eye-catching but appearance takes a back seat to the thrill of listening, as the ear falls under its spell and the speaker literally vanishes to leave room for the most incredible live stage experience you ever try
Reversed Array
Two-way bookshelf systems usually have the tweeter in the upper position of the cabinet.
If the designer is also aiming for time alignment of the two transducers, the plinth must be given a suitable back tilt.
Sonnet fits in with this principle except that the tweeter is underneath. That’s the explanation why the cabinet should be tilted forwards.
Perhaps the solution to the Riddle lies in the Sonnet operating theory of approaching issues that common sense isn’t aware of…
The Riddle
Academy Sonnet
Although the compromises required make this sort of design almost impossible, Sonnet offers a solution to bypass the Laws of Physics.
To integrate this strict definition, while we can safely say that we perform miracles to do our best at Chario Loudspeakers, we are nonetheless proud to say that we are strangers to miraculous designs.
Two-way bookshelf systems usually place the tweeter in the uppermost region of the speaker’s cabinet. If the designer is also aiming for synchronization of the two transducers, the plinth must be given a suitable back tilt.
Sonnet inverts this principle by affixing the tweeter below. Hence, the cabinet should be tilted forwards.

Bass
90/100
170 mm woofer with back-firing vent and a measured -3 dB point of 55 Hz; reviewers repeatedly noted deep, powerful bass down to ~50 Hz. For its size the bass is described as surprisingly deep and textured, though some placement can cause mid-bass exaggeration that was largely mitigated by room positioning.
Mid
92/100
Reviewers highlight natural, harmonically rich timbre and excellent vocal presence — "reveals his instrument without adding edge" — delivering emotionally engaging, well-bodied mids. Mid clarity and neutrality were praised while retaining warmth.
Treble
93/100
Aluminum vapor-coated soft dome tweeter described as a 'masterpiece'; cymbals and high-frequency detail are smooth, abundant and very realistic without apparent harshness. Reviewers emphasize effortless detail retrieval and refined top end.
Soundstage Imaging
93/100
Listeners reported expansive, well-defined soundstaging with precise images and palpable body around instruments; speakers 'breathe life' into recordings. Imaging is both pinpoint and spacious, though toe-in/placement guidance is given for optimal results.

Build Quality
89/100
High-quality solid walnut cabinets and in-house construction produce a beautiful, well-crafted product; reviewers praise the finish and cabinetry. Minor notes about the wood stands' sharp edges and susceptibility to dings suggest small fit-and-finish caveats.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Passive single-post speaker; passive baseline applied. No bi-wire/bi-amp or active DSP features reported.
Value for Money
86/100
At the listed price point (~10,750) reviewers still recommend considering the Sonnet even against floorstanders, citing performance and timbral rendering as justification. High price prevents a top-tier 'value' rating, but strong peer comparisons and enthusiastic endorsement support an above-average value score.
