Bluehorizon Profono
Bluehorizon’s Profono clears the way for vinyl with a low-noise, richly layered presentation that uncovers ambience, delicate detail and a broad, airy soundstage. The Audiophile Man found its smooth midrange and naturally warm bass especially persuasive, while interchangeable loading resistors make this solid aluminium MM/MC stage a refined cartridge partner.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 89/100
The Profono is described as notably clean, detailed and spacious, with its lowered noise floor allowing low-level information, reverb and air to emerge more clearly. Its presentation favours smooth, organic mids and naturally warm bass rather than an overtly analytical balance.
Transparency Noise Floor
90/100
The reviewer heard the noise floor fall immediately after inserting the Profono into the system. That quieter backdrop reportedly brought previously shy details forward and made the recording's reverb and ambient space easier to hear.
Tonal Balance Musicality
90/100
Midrange is described as exceptionally smooth, effortless and organic rather than artificially spotlighted. Bass percussion retained character and naturalism, with a slight warmth that supports an easy, musical presentation.
Dynamics
85/100
On a high-energy track, the Profono kept complex instrumental lines distinct, aided by the air between sounds. The review says less about outright slam, transient force or large-scale dynamic contrast.
Soundstage Imaging
91/100
The reviewer reports a rich, complex soundstage with layered detail extending across the left-to-right spread. Increased space and air around individual frequencies also helped the presentation sound more open and dimensional.

Cartridge Compatibility
86/100
The Profono supports both moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges. Supplied shunt resistors provide 100, 470 and 1,000-ohm loading options, while removing them returns the input to 47k ohms for MM use; additional resistors can be ordered if needed.
Build Quality
88/100
The compact aluminium chassis is described as solid, tough and dense, while the reviewer also calls the unit a substantial "brick" of a phono amplifier. Its purposeful physical design and straightforward installation were also praised.
Value for Money
85/100
At £995, the Profono occupies a substantial specialist-phono-stage price point. The review praises its low-noise, high-detail performance and solid execution, but does not directly compare its value against competing models at the price.
