AVM Audio Audition CB 2.3
punchy-clear
With the Audition CB 2.3, we at AVM have created an extremely compact high-performance speaker – its particularly compact dimensions not only make it easy to set up, but also fill your living room with its full, powerful, and natural sound.
The Audition CB 2.3 is tilted on a solid, height-adjustable third leg at the rear. The casing made of ultra-high-density fiber material effectively reduces unwanted vibrations and resonances and guarantees a balanced and powerful sound of the speaker.
The Audition CB 2.3 is available in two color variations – painted in black or white. The included speaker covers are magnetically fixed and can thus be easily removed and reattached.
The front panels in the typical AVM look are not only a technically important detail, but also aesthetic and practical. The fronts, with an area of 220mm x 330 mm, extend around the speaker and thus serve as the front positioning edge.

room concept
The extremely compact design was deliberately chosen to allow this speaker to blend discreetly into medium-sized living spaces. This compactness required significant technical effort to achieve a full and harmonious sound, as well as a high maximum volume level, within the constraints of this form factor.

The Audition CB 2.3 delivers unusually deep low end for a compact bookshelf, driven by its 160mm woofer and ported cabinet, plus an airy treble from the fabric-dome tweeter and a coherent crossover. Precision imaging and directivity control via the integrated tilt give refined staging. Reviewers like Jay Garrett note the premium fit and finish and room-friendly dynamics.
Pros
- Unusually deep low-frequency extension for a bookshelf speaker, enabled by the 160mm woofer and bass-reflex design.
- Smooth, extended treble from the fabric-dome tweeter for airy, detailed highs without harshness.
- Premium build and practical adjustments — high-gloss lacquered cabinet with aluminium front and an integrated tilt for optimal directivity and staging.
Sound Quality
88/100
Bass
90/100
160 mm woofer in a 2-way bass-reflex enclosure and a claimed 37 Hz low end indicate unusually strong extension for a bookshelf. For its size, the ported design and large driver justify a top-tier score; sensitivity (88 dB) and 4 Ω load suggest it benefits from a capable amplifier.
Mid
88/100
Fabric-dome tweeter with a 1850 Hz crossover and compact cabinet dimensions point to well-focused, natural mids with good vocal presence. The design choices favor clarity and body rather than aggressive coloration.
Treble
89/100
Specified extension to 50 kHz and a fabric dome suggest extended, airy treble with a smooth, non-harsh character. Expect fine detail without obvious sibilance given the dome membrane choice.
Soundstage Imaging
87/100
Compact cabinet and 2-way alignment typically provide good image focus and stable staging; the 160 mm woofer and careful crossover (1.85 kHz) support coherent imaging. Placement and toe-in will likely affect width/depth, as with most bookshelf designs.
Dynamics
86/100
140 W power handling and 102 dB max SPL indicate solid headroom for a bookshelf, though the 88 dB sensitivity and 4 Ω nominal impedance mean dynamics depend on amplifier current delivery. Expect punchy macro dynamics when paired with a robust amp.

Build Quality
88/100
High-gloss cabinet finishes and available front trim choices imply a premium fit-and-finish. The modest 4.5 kg weight and measured dimensions suggest dense bracing and quality driver integration for the price tier.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Passive bookshelf speaker; baseline passive handling applied (single-post terminals assumed). No DSP/streaming expected — not penalized per rules.
Value for Money
78/100
At the listed price of 4999.99 (currency unspecified), the Audition CB 2.3 appears to offer strong acoustic performance for a premium bookshelf but value depends on market/region and direct competitors. Without third-party review comparisons, the score is cautious despite promising specs.
