Overview

Upgrading from the P1 power amp, the P2 adds a much larger power supply and additional output MOSFETs to double power to 300W per channel.  It is the ideal solution to drive speakers in larger rooms and/or when a loudspeaker presents a difficult load and will provide an effortless, musical presentation under these demanding conditions.  Like the smaller P1, the combination of exceptional resolution and neutral fidelity allows the quality of the original recording to shine through whilst also offering outstanding compatibility with a wide range of partnering equipment.

Features

  • 300W per channel – ideal for larger rooms and/or challenging loudspeaker loads.
  • Dual-mono design delivers full power simultaneously from both channels, with minimal crosstalk.
  • Balanced and un-balanced inputs, plus un-balanced ‘link’ outputs.
  • Grounded source class A/B output stage circuits as found in ATC’s renowned active loudspeakers.
  • Wide bandwidth, low distortion and high dynamic range ensure tonal accuracy and perfectly timed transients.
  • Gain matched to smaller 150W P1 enabling bi-amp compatibility.
  • Neutral fidelity ensures excellent system compatibility.
  • Hand built in the UK and supported by a 6 year warranty.

ATC P2 power amplifier

ATC’s P2 is a high-current, studio-bred stereo power amplifier that delivers muscular control and refined transparency. Paired with ATC speakers the P2 yields exceptional slam and effortless dynamics, with the reviewer Terry Ellis and Pursuit Perfect System noting the amp never sounds overworked even under heavy loads. Its speced >300W output, ultra-low THD and >115dB S+N underpin a high-power, low-noise performance that reveals treble intricacies, tight midrange and bass with natural timing. The chassis and hefty power supply (23.35kg) communicate a built-for-duty build quality suited to demanding systems and calibrated rooms. Ideal for listeners who value control, clarity and headroom, the P2 is a premium, no-compromise amplifier that rewards careful setup and matching.

Pursuit Perfect System

"It was bass that flowed like water with an elastic bouncy character, serious but also fun."

Pros

  • Exceptional headroom and control: the P2’s >300W output delivers slam and keeps complex passages uncompressed, translating to effortless dynamics under real listening loads.
  • Reveals fine detail and treble intricacies when paired with quality speakers, supporting precise imaging and a spacious, monitor-like soundstage.
  • Robust construction and measured performance (very low THD, high S+N) give the P2 the low-noise, transparent character expected of a studio-grade power amp.

&

Cons

  • Performance is system-dependent: the P2 rewards careful speaker matching and room calibration (the reviewer used Dirac Live to fully realise the pairing).
  • Less immediately striking at very low volumes—the reviewer observed the system came more to life as listening level and drive increased.

Dynamics

92/100

Reviewers repeatedly describe the ATC P2 pairing as 'always effortless' with 'excellent timing, rhythm' and bass that 'flows like water' — indicating strong headroom, transient slam and speaker control. The speced output (>300W into 8 ohms) places it in the high-power Class AB band; the review's language about never sounding 'over worked' and taking material 'in their stride' supports a high dynamics score relative to this class.

Soundstage Imaging

90/100

Reviewer notes the combo 'sounded most like headphones' and that 'everything being where it should in the soundstage' with a strong central image and sense of space. The comments about no hardening or compression under complex music and stable organisation of events indicate excellent imaging and stage cohesion even under real listening loads.

Build Quality

89/100

Although the review focuses more on the speakers, ATC's documented chassis mass (23.35kg) and published performance specs (very wide frequency response, low THD, high SNR) imply a substantial power supply and solid construction. No thermal or reliability issues were reported; absence of explicit internal detail in the review keeps this just below perfect, but the unit reads as robustly built and fit for heavy-duty operation.

Value for Money

89/100

At the listed price (~5499) the reviewer expresses clear purchase intent ('could see myself wanting to buy') and strong positive impression of the amp+speaker pairing. Given the amp's >300W output, measured specs and the glowing sonic comments, reviewers imply the P2 justifies its premium in its competitive segment — worthy but not labeled an absolute bargain.
