Volumio announces the Rivo Plus streamer
Volumio
December 3, 2024
Volumio, a company dedicated to superior audio and design quality, has announced the launch of the Rivo Plus, and enhanced, upgraded version of the existing Rivo streamer launched two years ago.
As a company, Volumio is driven by its community’s needs. Following the successful launch of the Rivo our customers, while loving the product, made some suggestions for new features they would want included in any future product. Volumio is proud to announce that we have incorporated many of those suggestions with the launch of the Rivo Plus.
The Rivo Plus has several added features, including an additional 12V trigger-out and I2S/DSD over HDMI ports. Technical improvements include upgraded clocks (MEMS) and a dedicated ASIC connected to the internal USB, resulting in a better-quality output signal on the S/PDIF and AES-EBU interfaces.
Priced at €1,299 USD $1,399, GBP £1,099, AUD $2,299.
The Rivo Plus is available to order here.
More detail on the Rivo Plus features and technical improvements:
Dedicated ASIC for generating the signals S/PDIF and AES-EBU.
On the original Rivo, the signals for the S/PDIF and AES-EBU outputs were generated directly by the Amlogic SoC. On Rivo Plus, those signals are generated by a dedicated ASIC
connected to the internal USB interface, this lowers the load on the CPU for generating the audio digital stream. The ASIC is fed by a high-quality MEMS active clock and powered by several dedicated ultra-low noise linear regulators. The result is a further improvement in the quality of the output signal on the S/PDIF and AES-EBU interfaces.
12V trigger-out port
This has been implemented to facilitate the management of the audio chain connected to the Rivo Plus. If the other devices used together with Rivo Plus feature the trigger-in port, they can be connected in cascade to the Rivo Plus and they will be turned ON and OFF by the Rivo Plus, according to the system status (playback, standby, etc.)
Improved clocks for the USB HUB IC, connected to the USB DAC port for reclocking and signal integrity
The clocks have been upgraded to the MEMS type. This improvement brings even better jitter and frequency stability performance, and less susceptibility to temperature variations
and the ageing effect.
I2S/DSD over HDMI
Requested by many customers and implemented also on Motivo, the I2S over HDMI interface provides another option for connecting an external DAC. With some DACs, this interface brings the best sonic performance compared to S/PDIF, AES-EBU, and USB.
The signals for the I2S/DSD over HDMI are generated by a dedicated ASIC, connected to the internal USB interface and fed by a high-quality MEMS active clock. All the analog and digital sections of the ASIC are powered by dedicated ultra-low noise linear regulators.
The Rivo Plus is aimed at audio enthusiasts who already have an audio system and an external DAC who want the maximum performance from digital music, no matter what source it comes from.
