Astell&Kern, a global leader in portable high-resolution audio players and accessories, will debut its new PD5 digital audio player (DAP) – the successor to the multi-award-winning A&norma SR35 – at this weekend's Hong Kong AV show.
Designed to fit comfortably in one hand, the PD5 combines a switchable Quad/Octa-DAC architecture, up to 28 hours of continuous playback and EnviroTune, an intelligent feature that analyses ambient noise to deliver optimal sound for the listener's surroundings. All designed into an elegant aluminium body.
At its heart sit eight Cirrus Logic CS43198 DACs, letting listeners choose between Quad-DAC and Octa-DAC operation. Quad-DAC mode prioritises longer battery life for extended listening, while Octa-DAC mode unlocks the player's full sonic potential – delivering class-defining performance for a DAP of this size.
In Quad-DAC mode, the PD5 delivers up to 28 hours of continuous playback, and support for PD 3.0 charging cuts charge time to approximately 2.5 hours.
EnviroTune analyses ambient noise and automatically optimises the sound for the current environment, helping listeners get the best possible sound experience whether they are commuting, working or listening in a quieter space.
The PD5 supports bit-perfect playback up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM and native DSD256. Its octa-core processor and full Android OS platform are optimised for music streaming services, while dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 and broad codec support – including Qualcomm aptX HD, LDAC and LHDC – provide several options for listening to high-resolution audio wirelessly.
Following its Hong Kong debut, the PD5 will be on demo at Shenzhen International Audio Show (SIAS) 14th - 16th August in China and at CanJam SoCal 2026, August 29th – 30th in the United States.
Additional details, pricing and availability will be announced soon.
