Pros
Clean, neutral and detailed sound with spacious imaging, controlled bass and natural midrange reproduction.
Excellent local video playback: smooth 4K HDR and Dolby Vision performance, fast response and flawless motion.
Exceptionally flexible system integration through dual HDMI, USB movie-audio output, balanced outputs and advanced per-channel EQ.
Premium, rack-mountable construction with solid tool-free dual-drive installation.
Cons
Its revealing balance can make bright recordings and upper vocals sound forward; EQ may be desirable for some systems.
It is not a fully certified video-streaming replacement: Netflix, Disney+ and some major services were unavailable in testing.
Local movie playback requires users to rip and manage their own disc library, adding time, storage and setup complexity.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 90/100
Reviewers find the UHD8000 clean, neutral and highly capable across both music and video duties. It combines strong detail, timing and soundstage performance with a revealing presentation that can expose brightness in already aggressive recordings.
Tonal Balance Musicality
88/100
Tharbamar describes a clean, precise, neutral and transparent balance, with natural midrange reproduction, controlled bass and spacious highs. Pursuit of The Perfect System also praises its tone, timbre, vocals and all-day listenability, though both reviewers note that bright recordings or upper vocals can become a little too forward.
Resolution Detail
90/100
Tharbamar reports vivid, spacious sound with strong micro-detail and resolution from the ESS DAC implementation. Pursuit of The Perfect System likewise hears good organization, treble detail and a convincing soundstage, although it stops short of calling the presentation class-leading in every respect.
Digital Performance
91/100
The digital presentation is described as clean and precise, with Tharbamar specifically praising resolution and noise control. For video playback, Joe N Tell found 4K HDR and Dolby Vision playback smooth and immediate, while Pursuit of The Perfect System called image quality outstanding, with flawless motion and performance comparable to or slightly ahead of Oppo players.
FEATURES USABILITY PERFORMANCE 90/100
The UHD8000 is unusually flexible as a combined local-media player, streamer and hi-fi source. Reviewers particularly value its quick operation, phone-based music control, advanced output settings and ability to integrate video playback with a conventional stereo system.
Streaming Software
88/100
Joe N Tell found the unit extremely fast and reports that it can be controlled from a phone for direct music playback without needing to turn on a television. Plex also worked with tested lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD audio pass-through, but the supplied reviews provide relatively little detail on music-library management, interface polish or long-term app stability.
Features Connectivity
94/100
Connectivity is a major strength: dual HDMI outputs allow separate audio and video routing, while USB audio output can send movie sound to a stereo hi-fi system. Reviewers also highlight USB input, extensive per-channel graphic and parametric EQ options, volume pass-through settings, network connectivity and the ability to use the unit as a phone-controlled music player.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
87/100
Joe N Tell says the UHD8000 feels premium, and Pursuit of The Perfect System found its operating mechanism reassuringly solid in use. The full-width rack-mountable chassis adds practical installation flexibility, though the reviews offer limited detail about internal construction or long-term durability.
Value for Money
88/100
At $1,500 in the US and £1,099 in the UK review context, reviewers see the UHD8000 as a compelling way to combine local-file playback, streaming, advanced video support and hi-fi connectivity in one component. Pursuit of The Perfect System says the price is not a lot of money given everything it can do, while also noting strong competition in the music-server and streamer market.
