Pros
Engaging V-shaped sound suits pop, rock and hip-hop, with clear, quick mid-bass and little bleed into the mids.
Above-average layering and good instrument separation keep busy mixes intelligible.
Lightweight earpieces are comfortable for longer sessions once a proper seal is achieved.
Battery life reached almost eight hours per charge in testing, with useful rapid charging.
Cons
The unusual shell shape can make achieving the correct seal and full bass response difficult.
Lower-treble emphasis can become fatiguing at higher volumes, while cymbals lack natural mid-treble energy.
The app setup is confusing because Yamaha uses similarly named apps, and firmware updates may be needed for Bluetooth stability.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 81/100
The TW-E5B has an energetic V-shaped presentation that suits pop, rock and hip-hop especially well. Its mid-bass is controlled and articulate, while the upper-mid and lower-treble emphasis gives the sound presence and snap but can make some recordings less natural or more fatiguing.
Bass
84/100
With a secure fit, the TW-E5B delivers meaningful low-end impact and does not struggle for bass quantity. The mid-bass is described as clear, quick and well separated from the mids, although sub-bass rolls off below 50Hz and lacks definition at the very bottom.
Midrange
80/100
The lower mids sit somewhat behind the rest of the mix, though male vocals retain good weight and believable timbre. Guitars have convincing energy, but strings can need EQ for extra presence, while some female vocals may sound forward or nasal on susceptible recordings.
Treble
78/100
Lower-treble energy gives percussion a pleasing snap and helps the presentation avoid sounding closed-in. Cymbals are less natural because mid-treble energy is restrained, and the reviewer noted a roll-off around 12kHz plus possible fatigue at louder volumes.
Resolution Separation
87/100
Instrument separation was a clear strength in the review, with layering judged above average. This helps the Yamaha keep individual elements intelligible despite its lively tonal balance.
Soundstage Imaging
78/100
The stage has the familiar closed true-wireless emphasis on width over depth and height. Imaging is reasonably accurate, but images are not especially firmly locked into space.
Dynamics Coherence
75/100
The review describes the overall tuning as engaging with rhythm-driven popular music, which suggests useful drive for those genres. It says little directly about macro-dynamic impact, transient nuance, or performance with dense and demanding arrangements.
FIT COMFORT ISOLATION PERFORMANCE 81/100
The unusual shell shape requires care to position correctly, and a poor seal can substantially reduce bass. Once properly seated, the lightweight earbuds were comfortable for longer listening, while the review offers little direct assessment of passive noise isolation.
Seal Stability
78/100
The reviewer found the distinctive shape somewhat difficult to align and reported that finding the best-sounding position took effort. An incomplete seal made the earphones sound bass-light, so careful positioning is important to hearing their intended balance.
Comfort
88/100
The plastic construction keeps each earpiece light, and the reviewer found longer sessions easy once the right placement was established. Comfort is therefore strong for ears that can achieve that stable seating position.
Isolation
75/100
The review does not provide a direct evaluation of passive isolation in noisy environments. A proper ear-tip seal is clearly important for bass response, but the amount of outside-noise reduction is not described.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Accessories
84/100
The lightweight plastic earpieces proved comfortable in use, and the IPX5 rating adds practical workout and weather resistance. Ownership features are well rounded for a true-wireless model, including four ear-tip sizes, aptX Adaptive, an app, ambient mode, gaming mode and roughly 8.5 hours of stated earbud playback, though the reviewer called for Yamaha to improve the app.
Value for Money
85/100
At $149.95, the TW-E5B offers an engaging genre-friendly sound, useful codec support and a solid set of everyday wireless features. The review calls it a good pair for pop, rock and hip-hop listeners, but does not directly compare its value against similarly priced rivals and identifies the app as an area needing improvement.
