United States of Analog found that it uncovered previously missed textures and distant details in familiar recordings, while Giz Audio called its detail retrieval excellent with either supplied op-amp. Joshua Valour similarly heard a precise, exacting, and tight presentation rather than a blurred or softened one.

The XD05 PRO is not presented as strictly flat: reviewers hear a fuller, more musical balance with impactful low frequencies, rich natural mids, and a gently forgiving top end. Giz Audio and Joshua Valour both praise its combination of fun, richness, and precision, although Soundnews notes a slight treble roll-off and elevated sub-bass presence.

Dynamics are the recurring headline: Soundnews calls it a "dynamics beast" with spectacular transient response, while Giz Audio considers its power performance exceptionally competitive at this price. Reviewers report convincing punch, speed, bass impact, and a sense of unrestricted drive even with demanding headphones.

Z Reviews describes the amplifier as "dead silent," and United States of Analog also characterizes the platform as extremely quiet and low-noise. Joshua Valour reports especially successful IEM use in Eco mode, without the glossy edge or pairing problems sometimes heard with sensitive earphones.

Reviewers report strong results with IEMs, planars, high-impedance headphones, and unusually difficult loads. Soundnews used it with the HiFiMan Susvara, while Z Reviews says it powered every headphone in its collection, including the demanding Tungsten; Joshua Valour likewise found no headphone that challenged its capabilities.

Its thick CNC-machined enclosure is repeatedly described as solid, tank-like, and very well made. Z Reviews specifically praises the stiffness and spring-loaded action of the case hardware, though the robust construction also makes it a notably heavy portable device.

The XD05 PRO is unusually versatile, offering USB, optical, coaxial, AES, Bluetooth, balanced and single-ended analogue inputs, plus 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm headphone outputs. Swappable DAC and op-amp modules add substantial long-term flexibility, although Soundnews flags its large size and weight, mediocre Bluetooth range, heat under demanding use, and an occasionally erratic battery indicator.

At roughly $749-$799, Soundnews considers the asking price fully justified and calls it great performance at the right price. Giz Audio sees little direct competition for its power performance at this level, while Joshua Valour highly recommends it for listeners seeking its unusually broad feature set and sound quality.
