SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 87/100
Bass
91/100
Two 2" full-range drivers with two large passive radiators deliver unusually deep and well-controlled bass for a portable of this size; max SPL specs (85 dBC anechoic / 91 dBC ground) and dedicated passive radiators support strong low-end extension. Score reflects performance 'for its size'.
Mid
86/100
Full-range drivers and 360° design produce clear, present mids and good vocal clarity for a small sealed package; not overly warm, retains detail at moderate volumes though extreme high-SPL listening can thin the midband.
Treble
85/100
Treble is reasonably extended and refined for a portable: provides air without obvious harshness. Top-end detail is good but not ultra-analytical given the compact drivers and omnidirectional voicing.
Soundstage Imaging
86/100
360° sound design yields a wide, even soundfield with good perceived width and consistent coverage off-axis; imaging focus is less pin-point than directional bookshelf speakers but placement and omni projection make listening flexible.
Dynamics
84/100
Punchy micro- and macro-dynamics for its size; the MEGABOOM 4 can deliver impactful bursts and maintains composure, though absolute headroom is limited versus larger active systems.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
90/100
Rugged, IP67-rated construction, substantial weight (~935 g) and high recycled-plastic content indicate robust build and thoughtful materials; well-made for portable, outdoor use.
Features Connectivity
92/100
Bluetooth A2DP playback with a long stated range (~147 ft / 45 m), rechargeable battery (~20 hrs), good max SPL and passive-radiator design. Strong connectivity and portable feature set for a wireless speaker (not a passive bookshelf).
Value for Money
90/100
At $199.99 the MEGABOOM 4 offers a compelling mix of rugged build, long battery life, potent bass for its size, and broad wireless features — strong price-to-performance among ~$200 portable speakers.
