Bi-Wire Capable

This made-in-Canada flagship Bison Twin Tower is a stunning result of our continued evolution of expertise in loudspeaker engineering. Designed to allow listeners to truly experience the full-scale of musical vistas, this speaker is so immersive that you will get completely lost in the music. It pairs well with a broad array of electronics and when used with a well-designed amplifier, it will provide a world-class sonic experience that will satisfy the most discerning tastes.

The Bison Twin Tower combines two high-performance woofers that operate in the same frequency domain, allowing them to provide a lush, thick midrange and the ever-important bass fullness, which is unique in the floorstanding speaker category. Thanks to carefully selected components, custom driver development and evolved hard-wired crossovers, this tower manages to achieve symbiotic, synergistic and remarkably musical relationships between all of its interconnected parts.

Prepare to be blown away by the Bison Twin Tower.

Design Highlights

Customized Drivers

Bison Twin Tower drivers are completely unique and proprietary in design. They are engineered by Totem and manufactured to the strictest standards to meet our parameters by the finest raw driver suppliers in the world. In some cases, where the technology is beyond the capabilities of suppliers or is wished to be kept secret, Totem can and will build our own drivers. Every driver exhibits phase linearity, speed, emotion, off axis natural presentation, and spatial articulation.

Handmade Crossovers

Bison Twin Tower crossovers don’t require many parts because of the synergy between our customized drivers, but the components are the world’s best. Our crossovers aren’t built on PCB’s because the laminated conductive tracks are weak and inconsistent. Instead they are secured to a thin piece of fiberboard or insulated polymers and components are mechanically crimped together because it simply sounds better. When we must solder, we choose WBT Silver Solder, the purest in the industry.

Artisanal Cabinet Construction

Meticulously hand crafted for peak performance that lasts decades. Lock-Miter assembly is an intricate woodworking procedure where edges physically interlock together. The resulting cabinet is up to 5 times stronger than conventional V Groove cabinets. Internal and external veneering resists warping, structurally fortifies, and ensures consistent peak performance. Industry unique Borosilicate damping manages dissipation, keeps the cabinet musically alive, and never deteriorates. Popular materials like poly fillers eventually decay, dramatically affecting the performance. Variable Density Fiberboard is denser at the extremities than the interior to reduce repetitive nodes and resonances.

Connectors

Two sets of high conductivity gold plated connectors efficiently capture the incoming signal for superior speaker performance and allow traditional, bi-wire, or even bi-amplification options. They accommodate a variety of connection options such as bare wire, banana plugs, and spades.

Exclusive Delrin Decoupling Claw

The success of Totem’s acoustic decoupling Claw on other towers made it appealing to include but the associated costs were prohibitive for the price point. A new version featuring a high-density Delrin machined composite achieved the cost target and succeeds in breaking up standing waves and controlling surface resonance, tightening bass, and heightening the soundstage. These Delrin Claws are fitted with ¼ 20 thread inserts to accommodate optional spikes (not included). NOT REQUIRED: Bison Towers have been voiced with the claw as is, no spikes, needed nor recommended. It has been integrated should the rare need for a spike arise, as on a thick carpet to add stability.

Deliciously Crispy

The Bison Twin Tower punches above its size with deep, tuneful low end and an expansive, immersive soundstage that grows with break-in; reviewers praised its tight bass, mellifluous midrange and consistently wide imaging. Handcrafted, lock-mitered cabinets with Delrin decouplers add refinement and control, say Gene Hopstetter and Doug Schneider.

HomeTheaterHifi

"If my Polk Audio Legacy L600 speakers are hockey players, the Totems are figure skaters; they are faster, more elegant, more lithe, and more graceful."

Pros

  • Surprisingly deep, tight bass for the cabinet size—enough low-end weight that reviewers didn’t feel the need for a subwoofer.
  • Smooth, vocal-forward midrange with strong coherence and imaging that brings out microdetail and natural timbre.
  • High-quality, durable construction—lock-mitered cabinets and Delrin decoupling claws that tighten bass and reduce cabinet resonances.

&

Cons

  • Some recordings reveal slight upper-bass blurriness (~200 Hz) that can soften mid-bass clarity on complex mixes.
  • Nominal 4-ohm impedance means owners should pair them with a current-capable amplifier for best performance.
  • At $4,000/pair they sit at the top of the Bison line—strong performance but a significant investment for many buyers.

Sound Quality

92/100

Bass

92/100

Dual 5.25" woofers in a ported cabinet; reviewers consistently praised surprisingly deep, full, and weighty bass for the cabinet size, noting it was deeper than the Lumina Amator IIs and that they 'never felt the need for subwoofers.' A small amount of upper-bass blurriness (~200 Hz) was reported, preventing a higher score.

Mid

94/100

Multiple reviewers praised a smooth, mellifluous midrange with exceptional vocal presence and coherence ('spectacular midrange performance,' 'mellifluous midrange,' 'smooth, clear voice'), indicating excellent timbre and crossover integration.

Treble

91/100

Highs described as 'silky,' 'sweet' and extended appropriately without harshness; not as pronounced as some Totem models but refined and non-fatiguing, warranting a high but not extreme score.

Soundstage Imaging

90/100

Speakers deliver a wide, room-filling soundstage with good depth and 3D cues after break-in, though image focus was described as a bit more 'nebulous' and not as pin-point as some competitors.

Dynamics

92/100

Reviewers noted strong micro and macro dynamics, punch and the ability to play louder with authority while remaining musical; also praised for producing a satisfying sound at low volumes.

Build Quality

93/100

High-quality construction with lock-mitered joints, internal borosilicate treatment, internal veneering, hand-crafted cabinets and Delrin decoupling 'Claws' — reviewers emphasized durability and refined cabinet engineering.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive tower baseline applied. Offers 4-way bi-wire/bi-amp capable binding posts and decoupling feet; score capped at passive baseline per rules.

Value for Money

80/100

At $4,000/pair reviewers call these the largest and most expensive in the Bison line but repeatedly praise sound and appearance. Performance is strong for the price, though reviews stop short of declaring them a 'bargain' against peers.
