Design Highlights

Customized Drivers

Bison Tower drivers are completely unique and proprietary in design. They are engineered by Totem and manufactured to the strictest standards to meet our parameters by the finest raw driver suppliers in the world. In some cases, where the technology is beyond the capabilities of suppliers or is wished to be kept secret, Totem can and will build our own drivers. Every driver exhibits phase linearity, speed, emotion, off axis natural presentation, and spatial articulation.

Handmade Crossovers

Bison Tower crossovers don’t require many parts because of the synergy between our customized drivers, but the components are the world’s best. Our crossovers aren’t built on PCB’s because the laminated conductive tracks are weak and inconsistent. Instead they are secured to a thin piece of fiberboard or insulated polymers and components are mechanically crimped together because it simply sounds better. When we must solder, we choose WBT Silver Solder, the purest in the industry.

Artisanal Cabinet Construction

Meticulously hand crafted for peak performance that lasts decades. Lock-Miter assembly is an intricate woodworking procedure where edges physically interlock together. The resulting cabinet is up to 5 times stronger than conventional V Groove cabinets. Internal and external veneering resists warping, structurally fortifies, and ensures consistent peak performance. Industry unique Borosilicate damping manages dissipation, keeps the cabinet musically alive, and never deteriorates. Popular materials like poly fillers eventually decay, dramatically affecting the performance. Variable Density Fiberboard is denser at the extremities than the interior to reduce repetitive nodes and resonances.

Connectors

Two sets of high conductivity gold plated connectors efficiently capture the incoming signal for superior speaker performance and allow traditional, bi-wire, or even bi-amplification options. They accommodate a variety of connection options such as bare wire, banana plugs, and spades.

Exclusive Delrin Decoupling Claw

The success of Totem’s acoustic decoupling Claw on other towers made it appealing to include but the associated costs were prohibitive for the price point. A new version featuring a high-density Delrin machined composite achieved the cost target and succeeds in breaking up standing waves and controlling surface resonance, tightening bass, and heightening the soundstage. These Delrin Claws are fitted with ¼ 20 thread inserts to accommodate optional spikes (not included). NOT REQUIRED: Bison Towers have been voiced with the claw as is, no spikes, needed nor recommended. It has been integrated should the rare need for a spike arise, as on a thick carpet to add stability.

Overall Score 90/100

Rating for [object Object]

Nicely Roasted

The Totem Bison Tower delivers surprisingly powerful, musical presentation with notably deep bass and precise imaging from a small floorstander. Reviewer Andrew Dewhirst praised its natural mids, controlled dynamics and room-friendly footprint, making it a refined, placement-sensitive speaker that rewards careful setup and break-in.

Future Audiophile

"The Totem Bison floorstanding speakers make a pretty big sound from a small floorstanding speaker."

Pros

  • Musical, natural mids and strong imaging that place instruments convincingly.
  • Bass performance exceeds expectations for the compact cabinet and becomes more present after break-in.
  • Controlled dynamics and a coherent crossover that handle crescendos without obvious strain.
  • Relatively easy to position and install for a floorstander thanks to modest weight and supplied claw feet.

&

Cons

  • Claw feet are non-adjustable, making precise leveling difficult on uneven hard floors.
  • Soundstage is position-sensitive—performance is noticeably better from the seated listening position than standing.
  • May not fully satisfy very large rooms without adding a subwoofer or larger speakers.

Sound Quality

91/100

Bass

92/100

Reviewers repeatedly note bass performance beyond expectations for the cabinet size, with spec'd 33 Hz response and audible low-end after break-in. Phrases: 'better than you would expect', 'you could really notice the bass' support an excellent low-end for a dual 5.25" tower.

Mid

91/100

Mids are described as natural and musical: acoustic guitar and piano sounded realistic and vocals had presence. Reviewer comments like 'very musical', 'imaging...live right there' point to strong timbre and coherence through the crossover.

Treble

89/100

Tweeter delivers detailed, musical top end with good imaging from the listening position; no harshness reported. Some placement sensitivity noted (better seated than standing), which slightly limits ultimate score.

Soundstage Imaging

90/100

Imaging praised as 'very musical' and capable of placing performers 'right there in front of you.' Reviewer also notes position-dependent performance (better seated), indicating strong but placement-sensitive staging.

Dynamics

90/100

Dynamics described positively: tracks that build to crescendos remained controlled and engaging, and the crossover handled transitions without obvious strain ('fantastic'). Good micro/macro dynamics for the size.

Build Quality

86/100

Solid weight and cabinet feel aid installation; reviewer notes on claw feet (non-adjustable) mark a minor practical drawback. Overall construction and finish perceived as quality but with small usability caveats.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive tower baseline applied. Binding posts are bi-wire-able (4-way), but passive baseline score retained per passive tower rules.

Value for Money

86/100

Price not provided. Review suggests Totem's reputation and expected residual value ('hold a good portion of their value') and describes high-quality sound, implying strong value even without an explicit price point.
