Scansonic MB3.5 B
The MB3.5 B is a slim floorstander with two 5,25” carbon-coned drivers, a sealed ribbon tweeter and two 6.5” woofers. The MB3.5 B works as a 3-way speaker, where the two midrange-woofers are supported by two 6.5” aluminum coned woofers. The two carbon midrange-woofers are run in series for increased power handling.
The MB3.5 B cabinet is heavy, braced and curved, with carbon reinforcements. The speaker is crossed over at 2600 Hz and the two added side woofers assist up to 150 Hz.
The MB-series features high quality crossover with top quality components. The filter has been carefully tailored to linearize the frequency region where cone and cabinet geometry play a role and also to carefully tune the speaker to a natural sounding frequency response.
Fabric grillfronts can be supplied as an additional accessory.

With an unmistakable focus on low-frequency authority and air, the MB3.5 B pairs deep bass from dual side-firing woofers and a front-loaded port with a silk-smooth, extended top end via a ribbon tweeter. The curved, braced cabinet boosts imaging and soundstage, while substantial mass and bracing underline exceptional build quality, as noted by Jay Garrett.
Pros
- Powerful, well-extended bass driven by dual 6.5" side-firing woofers and a front-loaded port.
- Refined, extended treble delivered by the ribbon tweeter for detailed, airy highs.
- Wide, well-defined imaging and soundstage aided by the curved, heavily braced cabinet design.
- Robust build and resonance control—substantial mass, heavy bracing and adjustable aluminium feet support low coloration.

Cons
- Modest 89dB sensitivity means the speakers benefit from quality amplification (>50W) to fully realise dynamics.
- Side-firing woofers aid room integration but may compromise a strictly focused on-axis listening position for some systems.

Bass
93/100
Dual 6.5" woofers (side-firing), front-loaded port, and a claimed 27 Hz lower limit indicate strong extension and authority for a mid-tower design. Score set in the 'mid tower' band (excellent).
Mid
90/100
Dedicated 2 x 5.25" mid/woofers and a 150 Hz crossover point suggest clear midrange presence and coherent hand-off; cabinet bracing supports low coloration.
Treble
92/100
Ribbon tweeter and 40 kHz specified extension point to very refined, extended treble with good detail and air when paired with proper amplification.
Soundstage Imaging
90/100
Curved, well-braced cabinet plus a ribbon tweeter indicate strong imaging and depth; side-firing woofers may affect strict on-axis focus but improve room integration and width.
Dynamics
88/100
Solid cabinet mass (24.5 kg) and ported multi-driver layout favor good macro dynamics and slam, though modest 89 dB sensitivity suggests the need for competent amplification to fully exploit headroom.

Build Quality
92/100
Curved, heavily braced ventilated enclosure, adjustable aluminium feet and substantial per-unit mass all point to high-quality construction and resonance control.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Passive baseline applied.
Value for Money
78/100
Price not provided; performance-oriented specifications (27 Hz extension, ribbon tweeter, heavy bracing) suggest good value potential but unknown MSRP prevents a higher rating.
