What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 94/100
Review coverage describes an unusually open, resolved and musically complete presentation, with a notably quiet backdrop and convincing large-scale space. The RP-9 combines the color and ease listeners expect from tubes with strong articulation, freedom from glare, and substantial dynamic headroom.
Transparency Resolution
94/100
Both reviews describe remarkable transparency, detail, and a darker, quieter background from which more information emerges. Grossman also heard clearer bass definition and greater articulation in note attack and decay, while finding the RP-9 substantially ahead of his already well-regarded RP-7.
Tonal Balance Musicality
94/100
Reviewers praise a beautiful balance and an engaging, accurate sound that avoids both old-fashioned tube thickness and early solid-state glare. Average recordings were said to become more listenable and emotionally involving, while strong recordings gained realism, tonal color, and a live-concert-like sense of presence.
Dynamics
93/100
The RP-9 is repeatedly called dynamic, with quicker, more articulated attack and decay than the comparison preamplifier. It was also praised for playing loudly without audible compression or distortion, including demanding orchestral peaks above 100 dB.
Soundstage Imaging
95/100
Spatial performance is a particular strength: the background was said to deepen the projection of space, with layers appearing well behind the loudspeakers. Grossman reports greater stage depth, width, and height, along with strong separation and a concert-hall-like ability for music to float freely in the room.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
90/100
Reviewers describe a well-finished metal enclosure with a heavy faceplate, substantial knobs, and easy-to-use input controls. Inspection through the removable top hatch revealed extensive power-supply hardware, Vishay parts, and Mundorf silver/gold oil capacitors; the supplied metal remote also drew praise.
Features Connectivity
92/100
This is a notably flexible line stage, offering three RCA inputs, two balanced XLR inputs, home-theater bypass/unity-gain inputs, a processor loop, and a highly visible defeatable OLED display. Outputs include fixed RCA, two variable RCA pairs, and two variable balanced XLR pairs, while the tube-based high-power headphone amplifier and ten-function remote add real everyday usefulness.
Value for Money
90/100
At the reviewed price of $7,495, the reviewer considered the RP-9 extremely competitive against other preamplifiers using the 6H30P tube. Although it remains a serious investment, the review explicitly finds the asking price justifiable for its combination of transparency, musicality, detail, and extensive facilities.

Manufacturer's Description — Rogue Audio
With the preamplifier, our award winning hardware and software platform has been taken to a new level. From the outset, our overarching design goals were directed at maintaining near perfect signal integrity along with an ultra-wide bandwidth, low distortion and vanishingly low noise floor. The innovative and proprietary circuitry is designed around the Russian military's 6H30P tubes in a balanced configuration that stretches the bounds of modern preamplifier technology. The results translate into amazing detail, smoothness and refinement which has effectively redefined the level of performance that can be expected from a reference caliber preamplifier.
While sacrificing nothing to sonic integrity, the preamplifier affords all one can expect from a feature rich preamplifier. Included in the design are a home theater bypass, processor loop, mono button, and an elegant easy to read OLED display. A machined aluminum 10 button remote provides further convenience. Also included is a highly capable 2 watt tube based headphone amplifier. Two pairs of XLR balanced inputs and three pairs of RCA line level inputs provide for a variety of sources while two pairs of balanced outputs and two sets of RCA variable outs allow for a wide range of output connectivity.
Our driving design goal was to set an entirely new benchmark in vacuum tube preamplifier technology - we believe we have succeeded.
