Masterfully Crafted to Mesmerize

Every T/x model boasts sleek, radiused designs and impeccable craftsmanship. But with the T/9x Special Edition, we’ve taken it a step further. It's the subtle details that elevates these models—the badge atop takes three days to perfect, and each solid billet aluminium foot undergoes a three-day chroming process. We meticulously layer copper, nickel, and chrome, allowing each coat a day to set before adding the next. This is the kind of attention to detail that makes REL stand out.

The Heartbeat of Every REL

A REL's essence lies in its driver, and we dedicate immense care and expertise to its design and refinement. The T/9x’s driver is no exception. We've upgraded its critical center cap with carbon fibre, enhancing its stiffness for better bass articulation. By reducing its weight by 10 grams, we've achieved a faster response, and a notable 1.2 dB increase in output, making the T/9x faster, more dynamic, and just a skosh louder.

Amplified Emotion

T/9x's amplifier embodies power and precision with its 300-watt Class A/B monoblock design. Using reliable mosfet designs with integrated heat sinks, these amplifiers have been the driving force behind the Serie T flagships since 2007. With nearly 90,000 units in circulation—most in daily use—we take immense pride in their performance and dependability.

The streamlined 8s input filters ensure a seamless blend between the subwoofer and speaker. With straightforward rotary analog controls for gain, crossover, and LFE Gain, and an intuitive 0–180-degree phase switch, setting up your REL is straightforward and hassle-free. No misplaced remote controls or complicated apps—just timeless, dependable engineering.

Standby Mode switch is only included on 220V units.

Wireless That Doesn’t Compress the Sound

At REL, we’ve developed a sterling reputation for building the finest sounding, fastest wireless systems available in the industry. We never rely upon digital compression as it results in dull, lifeless sound. Instead, we have perfected an (optional) Arrow™ wireless system so fast and dynamic we’re comfortable encouraging the use of wireless on one channel of a pair of RELs while the other channel may be connected conventionally with cable.

The T/9x SE is for those that aren't afarid of a little color and style. These Special Editions have increased performance over the T9x core line, featuring a 10" Carbon Fibre active driver and retuned T/9x amp to accommodate the increased speed and clarity that this driver can produce. In addition to the sonic performance, we've added Chrome and Carbon Fibre to the design making this unit a feast for the eyes and ears. The T/9x SE delivers powerful, articulate bass with refined speed and detail—ideal for both music and theater. Inspired by race cars, these subwoofers are as fast as they look. Purpose-built for audiophiles seeking high-performance low-end in a compact yet luxurious design.

The SE version builds upon the T/9x with upgraded external components, bespoke finishes in Italian Racing Red, Tangerine Dream, Le Mon Yellow, French Racing Blue, and Green With Envy. T/9x SE provides tuned performance that delivers great speed, texture, and finesse. It’s a collector-grade subwoofer for connoisseurs of both form and function.

Yes, the T/9x SE can be integrated with other REL models. This comes in handy when building a REL 3D set up where you can mix and match different models and pair them with different sets of speakers in your theater set ups. For stereo pairs, two of the same model is required to achieve the stereo effect but feel free to mix colors as we've seen this becoming a trend. In theater setups, it works beautifully alongside other series—such as Serie HT or Serie S- to improve impact, clarity, and balance for realism that is sure to make you smile.

Yes, the T/9x SE is fully compatible with our Arrow Wireless System, which includes all the same input options found on the rear amplifier panel. Arrow delivers high-performance wireless connectivity with zero compression and ultra-low latency—ideal for clean, cable-free installations or setups where the subwoofer is positioned farther from your main system.

T/9x SE performs best in medium to large rooms, generally between 150 and 400 sq. feet. Its combination of driver size and amplifier power allows it to produce rich, room-filling bass while maintaining speed and clarity in both 2-channel and theater environments.

No, the T/9x SE is not designed for vertical line array stacking and we strongly advise against it. However, it excels when used in stereo pairs for music or REL 3D setups. For vertical stacking, consider stepping up to the HT/1510 Predator or Serie S subwoofers.

Nicely Roasted

A compact, musical subwoofer, the T/9x SE delivers lightning-fast transients and punchy, controlled bass thanks to its lightweight carbon-fibre centre cap and tuned ABR. Reviewers from HiFi Choice and Audioholics praise its fast transients, seamless integration with main speakers and show‑stopping Italian Racing Red finish.

The Sound Advocate

"REL offers the best in terms of integration with the main speakers, speed, bass texture, and tone,"

Pros

  • Carbon-fibre centre cap and reduced moving mass produce quicker attack and tighter bass articulation than the standard T/9x.
  • Seamless musical integration — blends with main speakers to enhance soundstage and feel rather than drawing attention to itself.
  • Premium build and presentation (multi-coat lacquer, chrome-plated feet, carbon detailing) make it as much a living-room piece as a performer.

&

Cons

  • Limited lowest extension for a compact sub — measured around -6 dB at ~27 Hz, not single-digit bass.
  • Down-firing ABR can sound slightly 'pudgier' at extremes, which may temper the very last degree of slam.
  • All‑analogue controls only (no DSP/app) with no remote, and wireless operation requires the optional REL Arrow (extra cost).

Sound Quality

89/100

Bass

90/100

Review describes the T/9x SE as "rich, deep and weighty" with -6dB extension at ~27Hz and a fast central carbon driver delivering "solid transient drum thwack." Good low-end extension and controlled articulation for a compact cabinet; not claimed to out-perform much larger reference subs.

Dynamics

88/100

Front driver is "lightning fast" with a solid leading-edge punch and the sub "pressurises our 24m2 room exceptionally well." Dynamics are slightly tempered by the ABR, which the review calls a "puddier output" that can hold back the very last degree of slam.

Integration

93/100

Review outcome language explicitly states the T/9x SE's "real sonic strengths lie in its seamless integration into the mix." Reviewers note it "sounds at its best in a corner" and that it blends into material without obvious overhang — clear evidence of effective integration in-room.

Build Quality

91/100

Hefty, braced MDF cabinet with radiused corners, premium 7-coat lacquer finish and larger triple-chrome-plated feet; carbon-fibre detailing and a sturdy steel chassis for the drivers indicate high-quality materials and construction.

Features Connectivity

80/100

All-analogue approach: Neutrik high-level input, RCA line/LFE, analogue pots for level/crossover/phase and no DSP/EQ or app control. Good physical connectivity and classic REL features, but limited modern digital tuning tools (and wireless requires optional REL Arrow).

Value for Money

86/100

Priced ~£1,549–£1,799 and described as a "shrunk version" of REL's Carbon Special at less than half the price; reviewers imply strong performance-per-pound but stop short of calling it an absolute 'must-buy' or category 'best in class.'
