ProAc Loudspeakers Response D30S
The ProAc Response D30S is available with either a dome or ribbon tweeter, known as the D30DS and D30RS respectively.
ProAc developed a specific bass driver for this model using a cone similar to that used in our Response D48. The cone is made from pulp and mica and is coated with an acoustic dope. It also now features a phase plug to improve detail at the crossover point, giving a more natural sound.
The Response D30S models offer a beautifully flat response. The bespoke bass driver and crossover giving better midrange detail and a wider sound stage.
The D30S offers an exceptional accurate portrayal of the music giving powerful bass and excellent midrange detail with low colouration. This speaker is also easy to drive, through a crossover using the finest quality components and our beautiful nickel silver terminals.
Featured veneers: Rosewood and Cherry

ProAc Response D30S pairs a startlingly spacious, layered presentation with a notably coherent midrange and ribbon-driven high end. The design delivers an expansive soundstage, refined midrange and silky treble, while a quick, punchy low end and high-quality crossover parts keep dynamics lively. Long-term impressions from Grover Neville praise its musicality and ease of ownership.
Pros
- Exceptionally deep, layered soundstage and sense of depth that immerses the listener.
- Ribbon tweeter option provides smooth, highly detailed treble with sparkle but low harshness.
- Fast, punchy bass and coherent, natural midrange supported by careful crossover parts and tuning.
&
Cons
- Ribbon tweeter has narrower dispersion and setup/toe-in affects treble balance, so placement matters.
- Not the most technically neutral or flat speaker compared with some reference designs—musicality favors emotion over absolute analytical transparency.
Sound Quality
91/100
Bass
90/100
Manufacturer lists a 20Hz-30kHz response and a 165mm (6.5") bass/mid driver; cabinet size (41" tall, 28kg) supports stronger low-end than typical small stands. With a single 6.5" driver the driver physics limit ultimate extension compared with multi-woofer designs, so score sits at the upper end of mid-tower expectations. No independent reviews available to confirm in-room extension, so manufacturer claim was credited cautiously.
Mid
93/100
ProAc's single 165mm acoustically damped Pagina Mica cone with phase plug and careful crossover components implies refined, coherent midrange and natural timbre. Spec emphasis on quality crossover parts and dedicated PCB plus bi-wire-ready split supports clean midband performance. No reviewer reports to further corroborate, so score is generous but conservative.
Treble
92/100
Offers high-quality tweeter options (1" silk dome or ribbon) with internal damping and air-cooling; these choices indicate refined extension and low harshness potential. The presence of a ribbon option suggests superior microdetail and air for those fitted with it. Lack of listening impressions prevents a reference-level (95+) award.
Soundstage Imaging
92/100
ProAc designs traditionally prioritize coherence and focused imaging; the single-coaxial-style driver arrangement and attention to crossover suggest strong imaging and layered presentation. Cabinet dimensions and weight are consistent with stable imaging and low coloration. No room/placement sensitivity comments available from reviews.
Dynamics
90/100
89dB sensitivity and 10–200W recommended amplifier range indicate the Response D30S can deliver lively micro- and macro-dynamics with reasonable amplification. Cabinet mass and construction support controlled transient behaviour, though independent listening notes are absent to confirm ultimate slam. The score reflects likely strong dynamics without independent verification.

Build Quality
93/100
Specification cites premium finishes, substantial cabinet mass (28kg each), finest crossover components and oxygen-free multistrand wiring, which point to high build and parts quality. Bi-wiring/bi-amp capability and optional premium veneers align with ProAc's artisanal build reputation. No review-based durability comments were provided.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Passive baseline applied. Bi-wire/bi-amp split is supported per the crossover spec (+2 rationale acknowledged in build notes), but hard bounds for passive towers kept the score at the baseline 80.
Value for Money
80/100
Price was not provided, preventing a definitive value judgement versus peers. Given high-quality components and finishes specified, the speaker likely represents reasonable value within ProAc's premium segment, but absence of pricing and comparative reviewer language caps the score conservatively.
