Pro-ject Audio Systems - USA Xtension 10 Evolution
The Xtension 10 Evolution delivers a jet-black backdrop, deep controlled bass and remarkably nimble timing from its mass-loaded, magnetically isolated design. SoundStage Solo found its scale, dynamics and noise rejection especially compelling, while electronic 33/45/78rpm switching and a damped aluminium platter make this a seriously refined vinyl platform.

Pros
Big, lifelike presentation with tight, weighty bass, strong dynamics and compelling rhythmic flow.
Exceptionally quiet backgrounds and effective suppression of groove and surface noise, helping worn records sound more listenable.
Open, detailed treble and a deep, wide, convincingly holographic soundstage.
Substantial, thoughtfully engineered construction with magnetic isolation, a damped platter and an inverted ceramic bearing.
Cons
Treble energy can sound forward or etched on already bright recordings.
Lingering transients and decays were judged less natural than a Rega RP8 in direct comparison.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 92/100
Reviews describe a large-scale, highly engaging presentation that combines deep bass, strong dynamics and rhythmic assurance with an unusually open, crystalline treble. Its quiet background and effective mechanical control help it present records with considerable ease and realism.
Overall Sound
94/100
SoundStage Solo heard a big, commanding and lifelike sound, with tight, deep bass, expressive dynamics and effortless timing. It also found the presentation livelier, more extended and more crystalline through the treble than is typical of heavy turntables, while Darko.Audio felt it could put vinyl on even terms with digital.
Speed Stability
90/100
SoundStage Solo praised the deck's compelling note-to-note continuity, rhythmic flow and effortless timing. Electronic 33, 45 and 78rpm selection, along with the specified low wow-and-flutter figure, support that impression, though the reviews provide no dedicated measurement discussion.
Tonearm Performance
90/100
The 10cc Evolution arm uses a one-piece carbon-fibre armtube intended to combine low mass with high stiffness, and is coupled to the plinth through a TPE layer. Reviewers did not isolate the arm's tracking or adjustment performance, but the complete deck-and-cartridge combination was praised for its extension, timing and musical coherence.
Noise Isolation
95/100
SoundStage Solo reported a superquiet, jet-black background and found groove and surface noise rendered utterly innocuous. Its magnetic feet are designed to isolate the deck from external noise and vibration, while the mass-loaded construction and ceramic bearing support the exceptionally quiet listening impression.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
93/100
The Xtension 10 Evolution is a substantial, carefully executed design with a massive MDF-and-metal-sand plinth, heavy damped aluminium platter, inverted ceramic bearing and magnetic feet. Review coverage consistently highlights the thoughtful mechanical construction, substantial mass and polished presentation.
Features Usability
83/100
Electronic switching between 33, 45 and 78rpm is a genuinely useful convenience on a serious manual deck. The supplied record puck, dustcover and phono cable make ownership more straightforward, although there is no built-in phono stage, cartridge or automatic operation.
Value for Money
85/100
The available review does not provide an asking price or name direct competing turntables, so comparisons with price peers are limited. SoundStage Solo nevertheless says the Xtension 10's build quality, appearance and features continue Pro-Ject's tradition of offering good value for money.
