Pro-ject Audio Systems - USA Head Box S2
The Head Box S2 keeps desktop listening refreshingly direct, pairing 725mW output into 32 ohms with a sub-1-ohm output impedance for a capable analogue setup. Dual 6.3mm and 3.5mm headphone sockets, RCA input and loop output make this compact amplifier a neat, unfussy hub for conventional source-and-headphone systems, while its wide frequency response underlines a clean, focused design.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 50/100
The supplied review is for the Head Box S2 Digital rather than the analogue Head Box S2, so it cannot reliably establish this model's listening character. The available material says little about its resolution, tonality, dynamic authority, background silence or headphone pairings.
Transparency Resolution
50/100
No supplied review describes the analogue Head Box S2's clarity, detail retrieval, separation or overall transparency. The available listening comments apply to the separately named Head Box S2 Digital.
Tonal Balance Musicality
50/100
The reviews provide no reliable description of this model's tonal balance, timbre, warmth or long-term musical appeal. Comments about the Digital version should not be treated as evidence for the analogue amplifier.
Dynamics
50/100
Reviewers do not discuss the Head Box S2's transient response, punch, headroom or sense of drive. Its published output figure alone does not show how it performs with different headphone loads.
Noise Floor
50/100
No reviewer evidence addresses hiss, hum or background silence with sensitive headphones or IEMs. The low stated output impedance is useful on paper, but the supplied material does not report real-world noise performance.
Headphone Compatibility
50/100
The specifications list 725mW into 32 ohms and output impedance below 1 ohm, but the reviews contain no listening evidence across low-impedance headphones, planars, high-impedance dynamics or sensitive IEMs. Usable gain range and control behavior are also not discussed.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
50/100
The supplied review does not comment on chassis construction, controls, sockets, volume control behavior or long-term durability. Specifications establish the compact size and weight, but not the ownership quality of the enclosure or components.
Features Usability
82/100
The Head Box S2 is a straightforward analogue desktop amplifier with one RCA input pair, 6.3mm and 3.5mm headphone outputs, and an RCA loop output. This is practical for a simple source-and-headphone setup, though there are no digital inputs, balanced connections, remote control or selectable gain settings listed.
Value for Money
85/100
No price is supplied for the Head Box S2, and none of the available material assesses its value against competing analogue headphone amplifiers. The positive price comment in the supplied review concerns the Head Box S2 Digital rather than this product.
