The dspNexus is used as the control center of your system. It will take in analog and digital audio and can be used to create a digital crossover for your speakers. The diagram below shows an example of how the dspNexus can be used with three (3) different sources, where it will also act as a preamp.
The dspNexus runs on Analog Devices’ state-of-the-art ADSP21569 SHARC+ digital signal processor (DSP). The output DACs on the dspNexus are AKM’s flagship VELVETSOUND AK4499EX chips.

Why use a digital crossover?
Digital crossovers have lower distortion and allow for tighter placement (higher orders) of the crossover without having to resort to large complex passive crossovers that can be quite expensive. Another acoustic benefit would be better control over phase and time. Not only do you have the ability to divide the signal by frequency for each driver, but also the ability to shift these frequency bands in time. This can help enormously in optimizing the coherence between the individual drivers and how and when the sound reaches your ears.
