About the Paris PH200 phono pre-amplifier

The distinctive design of the Paris PH200 with its elegantly sculpted chassis carries the unique signature of the Paris series. The secret behind the overall tonal balance and performance of the Paris phono preamplifier lies in the careful selection and combination of the different components. The internal circuitry of the Paris PH200 is a two stage design. The first stage has for role to amplify the faint signal coming from the phono cartridge in order to present the signal with an acceptable level to the straightening RIAA curve circuit. The second stage has for role to amplify the signal to the required output level of the PH200. Both amplifying stages were designed such that they optimize the signal to noise ratio of the PH200 which results in a very rapid and high dynamic contrast giving to the Ph200 all its musicality!

The Paris PH200 distinguishes itself from the PH100 as it is equipped with an additional signal regulation step located just before the RIAA circuit input and also by the usage of higher quality operational amplifiers on the analog amplifying modules further improving the sound. The last of these distinctions and not the least is the usage of a highly regulated and filtered external power supply. Extreme care and attention has been applied to eliminate the electrical line noise before it can access the Paris phono stage circuitry. The PH200 has been designed to accommodate usage of both moving coil and moving magnet phono cartridges. The PH200 offers variable moving coil cartridge load settings and variable gain using jumper configurations on both the left and right channels. The different values of load impedance and gain that are possible are listed on the technical specifications page of the PH200. The Paris PH200 will bring you to a re-discovery of your record collection and will provide countless hours of enjoyable and satisfying musical experience!

Oracle Audio Paris PH200 MkIII

The Paris PH200 MkIII is a compact, transparently voiced phono stage that impresses with a transparent, low-noise presentation and natural imaging. Reviewers such as Tom Lyle / Enjoy The Music and Positive Feedback highlight its ability to let the record dictate tonal character while revealing low-level information. Sonically it leans neutral and organic: clean midbass, articulate transients and detailed upper mids, with very good spatial cues and decay rendition. Engineering highlights include multiple MC/MM loading and gain options, an external toroidal-powered PSU and refined component choices. The all-aluminum styling and careful layout support quiet operation. Ideal for vinyl enthusiasts who want accurate, revealing playback with broad cartridge compatibility; those with ultra-low-output MCs should confirm gain needs. Overall, reviewers praise its performance-for-value and recommend it as a serious analog workhorse.

Positive Feedback

"The PH200 Mk III is an amazing work of electronic design, but also a work of art"

Pros

  • Exceptionally quiet, transparent presentation that reveals low-level detail and lets recordings breathe.
  • Wide cartridge compatibility with multiple MC load settings and three gain options, making it versatile for MM and most MC cartridges.
  • Natural imaging and strong soundstage cues—renders reverb trails and instrument placement convincingly.
  • Robust power-supply design and thoughtful component choices (toroidal PSU, Dale resistors) that support low noise and dynamic contrast.

&

Cons

  • Top gain (≈62 dB) may be insufficient for very low-output MC cartridges (~0.2 mV) without an additional step-up solution.
  • Slightly limited extreme bass extension and upper-treble reach on some recordings compared with much pricier reference units.

Transparency

90/100

Both reviews repeatedly praise a "quiet background" and the PH200 Mk III's ability to reveal low-level information, with reviewers noting it lets the record be the deciding factor. The external, highly regulated PSU and toroidal transformer plus Oracle's stated high SNR support the reviewers' impressions of low noise and accurate RIAA tracking. No mentions of hum/hiss were found; given MC capability and the high gains available, this merits an excellent Transparency score.

Sound Quality

90/100

Reviews mention strong transient response and convincing micro-dynamics (e.g., being able to 'imagine Geezer's finger and hands plucking'), and Oracle's literature highlights design for high SNR and dynamic contrast. The PH200 Mk III is consistently described as lively and punchy, justifying a high Dynamics score.

Cartridge Compatibility

92/100

The PH200 Mk III supports MM and MC, with five MC loading settings (100Ω–47kΩ) and three gain settings (approx. 41.5/52/62 dB) plus MM operation at 47kΩ/42 dB, as noted in the reviews and specs. This flexible loading and multiple gain options make it very versatile for a wide range of MM and MC cartridges; adjustments appear to be rear-panel choices but are comprehensive, so it scores in the excellent band.

Build Quality

88/100

Reviewers cite higher-precision Dale resistors, a toroidal transformer in the external PSU, and a well-filtered regulated supply via an umbilical — all positive indicators of careful construction and shielding. The unit is solidly executed though reviews stop short of claiming audiophile-flagship mechanical finish, so a strong-but-not-extreme score is appropriate.

Value for Money

93/100

Both reviews explicitly praise the PH200 Mk III's value, calling its level of performance astonishing for a relatively inexpensive phono preamplifier and stating the reviewer would not replace it with much more expensive units. Multiple reviewers recommend it and remark that it 'belied its asking price,' supporting an explicit value-praise score in the low-90s.
