Opera Grand Mezza v2 is the slimmest floor-standing speaker in the Classica line. Featuring a two-and-a-half-way design with a rear-mounted bass-reflex port, it is equipped with danish drivers. Its slim profile, extension, and balanced performance make it the perfect compromise between versatile aesthetics and high-level sound quality.

The Cabinet

Like all models in the new Serie Classica V2, the Opera Grand Mezza cabinet was designed to minimize internal reflections and coloration caused by side-wall vibrations, particularly important due to its tall, vertical structure. To this end, specific internal chambers with acoustically neutral reinforcements were placed at two critical points.

The wall of the internal chamber behind the woofers is sharply angled to optimize the distribution of reflections in the most sensitive frequency range. The loading system uses a dual-chamber, series-connected resonator (DCAAV), which, compared to traditional bass-reflex designs, ensures extended low-frequency response, a gentler roll-off, and reduced driver excursion.

A special high-density polyurethane, combined with the cabinet’s carefully studied shape, helps minimize internal coloration.

The Speakers

The two 5-inch mid-woofers on this model retain many qualities of the previous generation but feature a larger cone diameter and significant improvements resulting from close collaboration with the Danish company Scan-Speak, alongside natural technological advancements.

The tweeter is the same model used in other speakers of the series, based on a soft dome unit reinforced in the moving assembly to prevent tonal shifts in the high frequencies, even at high volumes.

The result is a tonal character balanced across the low and mid-bass ranges, outstanding clarity, and an expressive vocal presence, hallmarks of OPERA speakers.

The Crossover Filter

The crossover filter is built with high-quality components and includes a dedicated network for the two mid-woofers, which operate almost in parallel in the low-frequency range. The ultra-low-loss inductors minimize attenuation and preserve detail in the signal to the mid-woofers.

Thanks to the reduction of internal coloration, the crossover remains relatively simple while still delivering steep acoustic slopes, especially in the transition between the upper mid-woofer and the tweeter.

Careful acoustic phase alignment, both on-axis and off-axis, ensures precise layering of the soundstage and an immersive listening experience.

The PCB, fully designed by our internal team, features an optimized layout that faithfully preserves the performance observed in the prototypes. Internal wiring uses high-purity, thick-diameter copper cables to ensure optimal signal integrity.

Design Philosophy

Opera Grand Mezza partially revisits the distinctive features of the Superpavarotti, a design developed in the late 1990s.

That model stood out for its remarkably extended low-frequency response despite using small-diameter drivers, as well as its impressive soundstage reproduction.

While following the same design philosophy, the Grand Mezza now benefits from significantly more advanced technology, design, and drivers, delivering a sound that is balanced, clear, and extremely detailed.
