The Ear found the W12 added powerful yet tuneful low-frequency weight, giving double bass recordings a convincing sense of the instrument’s large wooden body and heavy strings. It also reports that bass remained present in the mix without drowning out the rest of the frequency range. Ecoustics characterises the sealed W12 as tight, fast and able to dig deeper than the smaller W8.

The Ear’s strongest observation is that the W12 became “seen but not heard”: its contribution was only fully apparent when it was switched off. Lower registers did not swamp higher-frequency material, while the added foundation brought more weight and energy to musicians without calling attention to itself.

The Ear praised the W12’s precision, saying notes start and stop with no overhang and that pace, rhythm and timing remained intact across genres. It also gave action sequences real power, while Ecoustics points to the high-excursion driver’s control at louder levels and describes the W12 as having serious home-theatre firepower.

The Ear was immediately impressed by the compact sealed cabinet’s substantial 18.3kg weight, impeccable matte-white finish and handsome appearance, concluding that it feels very well made. Ecoustics also highlights the C-CAM driver and triple-suspension arrangement as substantive engineering rather than mere marketing.

The W12 provides practical essentials: stereo RCA and dedicated LFE inputs, adjustable level and crossover, phase selection, 12V trigger, auto power and three DSP modes for Impact, Music and Movie. Ecoustics calls the arrangement plug-and-play and simple to tune, though the controls remain deliberately basic rather than offering advanced room correction or app-based adjustment.

At its £750 UK price, The Ear calls the W12 an “absolute audio bargain.” Ecoustics similarly presents it as a serious bass upgrade that avoids four-figure pricing, offering much of the family character and ample output for substantially less than the higher-tier Anthra models.
