Metrum Acoustics Metrum Baby Ambre

Netherlands flag

The Metrum Baby Ambre delivers a compact wired-streaming solution for DAC-based systems, pairing Ethernet with optical and coaxial S/PDIF outputs. Separate clock families for common sample-rate groups support purposeful digital delivery, while its tiny, stack-friendly enclosure keeps installations neat. Alpha Audio regards it as a complete package, making this focused transport especially appealing for space-conscious Metrum setups.

What Reviewers Are Saying

"All in all you get a complete package for 499 euros."

— Alpha Audio

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 82/100

The available review provides very little direct listening commentary, so there is limited evidence about the Baby Ambre's tonal character, dynamics, imaging, or musical engagement. Its digital design is purposeful, with separate clock families and dedicated S/PDIF output provision, but the review does not report comparative sound results.

Overall Sound

80/100

Alpha Audio poses the question of whether this compact streamer can make an impact, but the supplied review material does not include a substantive listening conclusion. Reviewers therefore say little about its transparency, timing, tonal balance, or sense of musical involvement.

Digital Signal Integrity

84/100

The Baby Ambre uses a WM8804G S/PDIF transceiver and separate clocks for 44.1kHz- and 48kHz-derived sample rates. This is sensible digital-delivery engineering, although the review excerpt does not provide measured jitter results or listening comparisons that confirm its effect.

FEATURES USABILITY PERFORMANCE 81/100

The Baby Ambre is a straightforward wired network streamer rather than an all-in-one server, concentrating on Ethernet input and optical or coaxial digital outputs. The supplied review material says little about control software or daily setup, while the connection provision is useful but deliberately limited.

Streaming Software

80/100

The review confirms Ethernet networking but does not discuss the control app, streaming-service support, setup process, metadata, or operational stability. There is also no specific commentary on remote-control usability or everyday navigation.

Features Connectivity

83/100

Ethernet is joined by coaxial S/PDIF output up to 192kHz and optical output up to 96kHz, covering common DAC connections. Wi-Fi is unavailable and the transceiver's I2S capability is not used, so flexibility is more focused than expansive.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

80/100

The review confirms that the Baby Ambre is a genuinely small and lightweight box, designed to complement Metrum's similarly compact Flint. Beyond its compact enclosure, reviewers provide little detail on chassis rigidity, internal layout, connector quality, or long-term durability.

Value for Money

87/100

Alpha Audio characterises the €499 Baby Ambre as a complete package, which is encouraging at this compact streamer's asking price. The review does not compare it directly with competing network transports, so its standing against alternatives remains less clearly established.
