  • Sealed 3-Way Flexible Placement
  • 75 to 300 Watts Power Rating

The LCR80 speaker projects an extremely wide sound-stage for a greater listening experience from a variety of seating positions, delivering an amazingly full-sounding performance for a speaker of such compact dimensions.

With its flexible design, it can be placed in horizontal, vertical or shelf mounted orientations. Complete mounting hardware is supplied for all positions. The machined alloy, high-frequency array is rotatable to optimize the sound for either vertical or horizontal placement without sonic compromise. McIntosh patented Low Distortion/High Performance (LD/HP) woofers are combined with two midranges and a dedicated tweeter to deliver lifelike sound. Voiced to match the XR50 and XR100 speakers, the LCR80 may be used for the left, center or right channels in home theater systems or in special stereo applications.

Patented McIntosh Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts allow for a simple yet secure connection to your speaker cables, helping to ensure the best possible audio performance. Fine gloss wood finishes are offered in Black, Pear Maple and Red Walnut. Amplifiers from 75 to 300 Watts are appropriate power for LCR80. Contact your local dealer to learn more.

Nicely Roasted

Built as a compact sealed 3‑way, the LCR80 emphasizes focused mids and a clear, airy treble, giving precise dialog and strong imaging for home theater and stereo; its dual 6" woofers deliver tight bass rather than deep sub-bass, while premium finishes and angled brackets enable flexible placement. Brian Mitchell at ecoustics notes the refined build and balanced presentation.

Pros

  • Strong, focused midrange and vocal clarity driven by dual 2" inverted titanium mid drivers.
  • Extended, detailed treble with a 3/4" titanium dome delivering air and top-end definition.
  • Tight, controlled bass for its size thanks to dual 6" woofers in a sealed enclosure.
  • Premium build and versatile installation — quality finishes plus angled wall-mount brackets for flexible placement.

&

Cons

  • Limited low-frequency extension (specified to ~80Hz), so it won’t replace a subwoofer for deep bass.
  • Modest sensitivity (~81dB) means dynamics and headroom depend on higher-powered amplification.
  • Premium price positions it as a niche value: excellent craftsmanship and sound but costlier than some higher-sensitivity or floorstanding rivals.

Sound Quality

88/100

Bass

85/100

Two 6" woofers in a sealed 3-way design and a specified low-frequency limit of 80Hz imply solid bass extension for a medium-sized bookshelf/ LCR. Sealed loading and the relatively high system sensitivity requirement limit very deep extension; expect controlled, tight bass rather than sub-bass authority. Given the dual-woofer layout and McIntosh tuning, bass is strong for the driver size but not floorstander-deep.

Mid

90/100

Dual 2" inverted titanium dome midranges and a dedicated 500Hz crossover point suggest focused, detailed midband performance and strong vocal presence. McIntosh's 3-way approach and premium mid drivers point to accurate timbre and body. Expect clear, forward mids with good articulation.

Treble

89/100

A 3/4" titanium dome tweeter and a published extension to 45kHz indicate excellent top-end extension and detail retrieval. Titanium domes can be energetic, but the sealed 3-way crossover and McIntosh voicing imply controlled, clean treble without obvious harshness. Air and sparkle should be present while remaining refined.

Soundstage Imaging

90/100

Three-way topology with dedicated mid drivers and compact cabinet plus 'Flexible Placement' design and angled wall-mount brackets point to stable imaging and good LCR localization. The twin midrange arrangement supports precise imaging and center-channel clarity in multichannel use. Expect good width and focused images for its form factor.

Dynamics

85/100

Robust power-handling spec (75–300 W) and a 3-way layout support strong macro dynamics and punch when paired with sufficient amplification. System sensitivity (~81dB) is modest, so dynamics will depend on driving power—adequate amps will reveal very good transient snap and authority. Headroom is good but amplifier-dependent.

Build Quality

94/100

McIntosh-grade finishes (Red Walnut, Pear Maple, Black), cast-frame woofers and magnetically attached grilles indicate high craftsmanship and premium construction. The cabinet design for flexible placement and angled mounting hardware reinforces a well-engineered build. Expect tight assembly, quality parts and durable finishes.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive bookshelf baseline applied: single-post passive speaker assumed. No DSP/app/streaming expected or penalized; features score uses the passive baseline per rules.

Value for Money

75/100

At a $2,500 price point these are a premium purchase; technical specs and McIntosh branding justify a high-performance expectation but the limited low-frequency spec (80Hz) and modest sensitivity temper value versus similarly priced floorstanding or higher-sensitivity alternatives. Strong build and mid/tweeter performance support the cost but value is niche—excellent if you prioritize brand, finish and LCR accuracy.
