Magnat Signature Edelstein

For such a compact speaker, reviewers found the low-end extension striking and likely to surprise first-time listeners. It does not produce true sub-bass, and its rear port makes placement important; positioning near a wall restored useful solidity when the port was obstructed.

The sound is described as clear, textured and involving, with particularly appealing texture on brass instruments and slide guitar. Using port bungs improved tonal balance in one setup, bringing piano and saxophone more convincingly forward in the mix.

There is plenty of sparkle and perceived detail, contributing to the speaker's immediately impressive character. Reviewers also note a slight presence and treble emphasis, so listeners seeking a notably soft or relaxed top end may need to take room setup into account.

Imaging is a clear highlight, with bells and hi-hat projected well beyond the cabinet boundaries. The review also praises a broad, immersive soundstage that aids dialogue clarity and makes the speaker sound larger than its dimensions suggest.

The Edelstein handled the grand synth swells of the Tron: Legacy soundtrack with suitably epic scale. It is also described as nimble and entrancing on intricate jazz, suggesting a lively response that suits varied material in modest-sized rooms.

The cabinet is described as hefty MDF and finely crafted, with satin finishes and a brushed-metal baffle lending it a convincingly premium feel. Its alloy waveguide, ceramic-surfaced magnesium-alloy woofer and deep rear port also point to a carefully executed compact design.

At approximately £949, the Edelstein is positioned as a small luxury speaker rather than a budget mini-monitor. The review does not directly compare its asking price with rivals or make a firm value judgement, but its premium finish and unusually expansive sound are presented as part of the appeal.
