Lyngdorf Audio MXA-8400
With eight channels of Purifi Eigentakt power, the MXA-8400’s neutral, low-noise presentation combines muscular bass control with lucid, holographic imaging. In bridged stereo, it adds startling dynamic headroom and crystalline detail while remaining compact and fanless. Roger Kanno found it especially accomplished across demanding stereo and surround systems, making it a formidable engine for high-end cinemas and power-hungry loudspeakers.

Pros
Exceptionally clean, neutral and transparent sound with no apparent noise, distortion or added sonic character.
Bridged mode delivers outstanding dynamics, tightly controlled deep bass and sharply resolved imaging.
Highly coherent multichannel performance, with convincing tonal matching and expansive surround imaging.
Fanless, compact and efficient despite substantial eight-channel power capability.
Cons
Premium pricing makes it a significant investment, even if comparable high-end multichannel amplifiers can cost as much or more.
XLR-only inputs and speakON-only speaker outputs may require adapters or cable re-termination for conventional hi-fi systems.
The two-year warranty is relatively short for an amplifier at this level.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 95/100
Reviewers describe an exceptionally clean, neutral and coherent amplifier that combines near-silent backgrounds with unusually forceful control. Its strongest reports come from demanding multichannel material and from bridged stereo use, where subtle detail, image placement and large-scale authority are repeatedly praised.
Transparency Resolution
96/100
SoundStage heard no audible noise, distortion or imposed sonic signature, calling the presentation amazingly lucid and coherent. In bridged mode, every nuance reportedly stood in sharp relief, while Best of High End likewise describes crystal-clear, low-coloration sound.
Tonal Balance Musicality
94/100
The MXA-8400 is consistently described as extremely neutral, balanced and natural rather than sterile. Reviewers also found it controlled, effortless and musical, with rich piano tone, convincing vocals and an inviting, organic presentation.
Dynamics
96/100
This is a major strength: reviewers repeatedly cite effortless power, fast transients, punch and absolute woofer control. SoundStage found it kept pace with higher-rated Anthem amplifiers while sounding deeper and tighter in the bass, and it controlled MartinLogan ESL 9 woofers so completely that a pair of usual subwoofers was not missed.
Soundstage Imaging
94/100
SoundStage reports expansive staging, sharply fixed images and unusually exact recovery of timing, frequency and amplitude cues across a surround system. Instruments and voices were rendered distinctly and percussion spread holographically, though one comparison noted some loss of image sharpness and stage depth.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
91/100
The engineering package is substantial: Purifi Eigentakt modules, Lyngdorf's PowerPerfect supply, low-noise analog stages, a four-layer PCB, protection systems and fanless thermal management are all highlighted. Locking speakON connections feel secure and the chassis runs quietly, although the connectors can be less convenient for frequent cable swaps and SoundStage questioned the relatively short two-year warranty.
Value for Money
88/100
At roughly €9,000, reviewers acknowledge that the MXA-8400 is a costly proposition. However, SoundStage notes that comparable multichannel amplifiers from Bryston, Hegel and McIntosh cost as much or more, while other coverage considers its performance and eight-channel flexibility persuasive at the asking price.

Manufacturer's Description — Lyngdorf Audio
A new benchmark in multichannel amplifiers
The MXA-8400 is the most powerful product from Lyngdorf Audio ever, delivering 8 x 400 watts of ultra-linear and stable power. It incorporates Purifi EIGENTAKT technology with the innovative EIGENTAKT ErrorCorrection (EEC), Lyngdorf Audio’s highly efficient and advanced power supply PowerPerfect, ultra-low-noise and precise analog input stages, and a 4-layer main PCB optimized for the best signal purity and grounding. With this range of features, the MXA-8400 sets new amplifier benchmarks in audio quality, measured performance, and reliability.
Purifi EIGENTAKT technology with innovative EEC circuit
Purifi EIGENTAKT technology is the result of extensive research addressing persistent challenges in Class D amplifiers. The patented EIGENTAKT ErrorCorrection (EEC) ensures ultra-high, full-output loop gain (>75dB) in the entire audio band. This produces extremely low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) at any frequency and any power level, as well as unrivaled low Inter Modulation Distortion (IMD), leading to a highly resolved and stable stereo image unmatched by any amplifier technology or operating class. The result is an incredibly neutral sound performance, with negligible audible noise and no sonic fingerprint.
Highly efficient PowerPerfect power supply
8 Purifi amplifiers with a combined 3.2 kilowatts of output power and even higher peak power represent extremely high challenges for the power supply, which is often a limiting factor with common multichannel amplifiers. PowerPerfect by Lyngdorf Audio is a highly efficient and advanced power supply. With its integrated Channel Balancing Technology and several protection systems, it provides the best basis for each channel, even with all channels driven. It is so power-efficient and has such a low idle power consumption that the enclosure sufficiently becomes the heatsink, with no noisy fans required. The mains power is decoupled by design, requiring no external power conditioner. It safeguards the speakers from mains-generated noise, represents a gentle load to the mains, and does not introduce noise to other equipment.
Best-in-class performance across all levels, frequencies, and speaker loads
Thanks to Purifi EIGENTAKT combined with PowerPerfect, the performance of the MXA-8400 is maintained across all volume levels and the entire audio frequency range. Even when operating over its maximum specifications, clipping in the output stage will be recovered in both voltage and current domains. It is immune to out-of-band noise on the input signal and insensitive to difficult speaker loads, always maintaining a flat frequency response. The output channels are bridgeable, delivering up to 4 x 800 watt to drive even the most demanding loudspeakers effortlessly.
Designed, assembled, and 24h tested at Lyngdorf Audio, Denmark
The MXA-8400 is assembled to the highest quality standards at Lyngdorf Audio in Denmark, where each unit must pass a 24-hour test with all channels driven and must be measured to meet all specifications. This ensures the ultimate performance and highest reliability.
Purifi EIGENTAKT technology
Purifi EIGENTAKT is the result of extensive research, leading to the patented EIGENTAKT ErrorCorrection (EEC) with ultra-high, full-output loop gain. It produces negligible Total Harmonic Distortion and Inter Modulation Distortion, minimized Magnetic Hysteresis Distortion, low Electro Magnetic Interference, a frequency response independent from the speaker impedance, and a very high damping factor.
PowerPerfect power supply
PowerPerfect is an advanced power supply, specifically designed to extract the best performance from Purifi technology and to create a very robust and reliable power amplifier. It is also a highly power-efficient design with extraordinarily low idle power consumption, while several protection systems continuously measure the processed power over time. The integrated Channel Balancing Technology distributes the power between all channel in the best way.
Bridgeable amplifier outputs
The 8 power amplifier channels are bridgeable in pairs, delivering up to 4 x 800 watts at 8 Ohm to drive even the most demanding loudspeakers effortlessly. The maximum output voltage doubles from 60V to 120V in bridge mode.
