Pros
Exceptionally deep, stable, and enveloping stereo imaging, with convincing center focus.
Detailed, natural AMT treble remains clean and non-sibilant, with wide dispersion away from the sweet spot.
Strong dynamics and composure at high volume, without becoming strained or strident.
Substantial, inert cabinet construction and flexible bi-wire/bi-amp connections with bass and treble adjustment.
Cons
The deepest bass lacks the physical impact of larger speakers; a subwoofer is beneficial for full-range music and cinema.
Treble detail can sound slightly too prominent when the speakers are aimed directly at the listener, making placement important.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 92/100
The Studio HD is repeatedly described as a large, involving-sounding monitor with unusually deep imaging, strong detail, and the ability to play loudly without hardening. Its bass is satisfying for the compact enclosure, though it does not deliver the ultimate low-end physical force of a larger speaker without subwoofer support.
Bass
90/100
Reviewers found the 8-inch, rear-ported Studio HD far from bass-anemic, with deep drums carrying both impact and definition. It reaches low enough for most music, but the lowest octave and the full physical "gut punch" of bigger speakers require a subwoofer.
Mid
91/100
Vocals retained their power and beauty, while horns were praised for their natural resonance. The inert, heavily braced cabinet was also said to add no audible midrange coloration.
Treble
91/100
The AMT tweeter earns praise for clarity, realism, wide dispersion, and detailed presentation without added sibilance or beaminess. One listener found the high-frequency detail slightly more prominent than preferred when the speakers were aimed directly at the listening position, so setup can matter.
Soundstage Imaging
96/100
Imaging is a major strength. Reviewers describe a broad, enveloping and exceptionally stable stereo picture, with particularly impressive depth that extends well beyond the front wall; Audioholics called the imaging the best heard in its room.
Dynamics
94/100
The Studio HD was praised for remaining composed at high levels rather than becoming pinched or strident, and it was said to open up as volume increased. Explosive film material and orchestral passages showed dynamic range described as on par with the best.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
93/100
The cabinet uses thick MDF, substantial internal bracing, and hardwood housing, resulting in a notably heavy and inert enclosure for its size. Reviewers also praised the solid all-metal terminals, careful packaging, and handcrafted finish quality.
Value for Money
94/100
At the reviewed $1,450-per-pair MSRP, Audioholics described the Studio HD as among the best performance-per-dollar speakers it had heard and said its handcrafted finish and performance suggested a substantially higher price. The currently listed $3,500-$4,500 range is far above that reviewed MSRP, so prospective buyers should compare current dealer pricing with similarly priced premium stand-mount competitors.

Manufacturer's Description — Legacy Audio
Originally designed as a monitor for a top recording studio, the Legacy Studio HD offers unmatched clarity and dynamics in a compact enclosure. Don’t let its size fool you. The Studio HD is a robust compact monitor featuring an 8” Silver/Graphite bass/midrange driver and a 1” dual pole AMT folded ribbon for a perfect balance of power and articulation.
The Legacy Studio HD: Professional Reference Monitors for Discerning Ears
Designed initially for a top recording studio, the Legacy Studio HD is a high-performance monitor that delivers an open, dynamic, and accurate sound. The sound is open and airy, yet a kick drum “feels” like a kick drum. Vocals are robust and effortless. You can hear lungs fill with air before the first note is sung.
Its compact design belies its robust build and powerful performance. These professional reference monitors feature an 8-inch Silver/Graphite woven diaphragm woofer and a 1-inch dual pole AMT folded ribbon tweeter, the same tweeter found in Legacy Audio’s flagship models.
The Studio HD’s meticulous engineering provides a flat frequency response from 41 Hz to 30 kHz, ensuring critical accuracy for mixing and mastering. The rear-ported cabinet, constructed from dense 1.125″ MDF, and independent high- and low-frequency contour switches allow for precise room adjustments, making them a versatile tool for any studio or home environment.
Studio HD excels as both a left and right main speaker, as well as a surround speaker for Atmos® systems. Coupled with the Metro XD subwoofer, Studio HD offers a building block approach to true high-end audio.
The Legacy 1” dual pole AMT folded ribbon delivers airy and clear highs up to 30 kHz and is the same award-winning Legacy AMT found in the larger Focus SE & Aeris floor-standing speakers.
Studio HD features a proprietary 8” woven Silver/Graphite bass/midrange driver with a cast basket. The woofer is designed to prevent acoustic interference across the larger surface area of the driver. Thanks to the deep tuning of this ultra-efficient driver, the range of the Studio HD is impressively large.
