What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 84/100
The available reviews describe an unusually sweet, open and relaxed presentation, with an engaging sense of “magic” rather than strict tonal accuracy. Spatial ambience and low-level information are particular strengths, while the supplied reviews offer little direct assessment of bass, midrange balance or treble behavior in isolation.
Bass
75/100
The supplied reviews do not directly discuss bass extension, impact, control or texture. There is not enough bass-specific listening evidence to make a stronger claim.
Midrange
75/100
Reviewers describe an overall sweetness and relaxed character, which may be appealing with voices and acoustic material. They do not provide enough direct commentary on vocal presence, tonal body or instrumental timbre to assess the midrange more precisely.
Treble
88/100
The RS1 is praised for audible air and an open, relaxed presentation. That suggests a treble character that delivers openness without being presented as aggressively sharp, though the reviews do not address sibilance or top-octave extension in detail.
Resolution Detail
91/100
Audiophiliac specifically highlights the RS1's ability to capture low-level detail and air in a way rarely heard from other headphones. The reviewer also cautions that it is not an accuracy-first headphone, framing its detail as musically expressive rather than analytical.
Soundstage Imaging
89/100
The open-back RS1 convincingly conveyed the reverberant space of Chesky recordings made in a Brooklyn church. This is strong evidence of an involving sense of ambience and scale, although image-placement precision is not discussed directly.
Dynamics
88/100
Enjoy The Music calls the RS1's presentation infectiously enthusiastic, and Audiophiliac describes it as having a special musical magic. Those comments point to an energetically involving delivery, though the reviews provide little direct discussion of transient attack or large-scale slam.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Comfort Fit
89/100
Audiophiliac finds the RS1 really comfortable and specifically credits its light weight, an especially favorable comparison with other Grado models. This is encouraging evidence for long listening sessions, although the supplied material includes only one direct comfort assessment.
Build Quality
75/100
The supplied reviews say little about materials, structural durability, cable durability or long-term ownership. No recurring construction problem is identified, but there is also no direct evidence supporting a stronger craftsmanship claim.
Features Usability
78/100
This is a straightforward open-air wired headphone with L cushions and a low-impedance design that should be relatively easy to drive. The supplied reviews provide little information about cable provisions, replaceable parts, storage or other ownership conveniences.
Value for Money
85/100
At roughly $750 to $920, the RS1 sits in a serious enthusiast-headphone segment and offers a distinctive, emotionally involving sound according to the available reviews. None of the supplied reviews directly compare its asking price with competing models or make a firm value judgment.

A Grado Original
Few headphones represent the history of Grado more clearly than the RS1.
Introduced more than three decades ago it was the first wooden headphone in the Grado lineup and quickly became one of the defining models of the brand.
Originally constructed from mahogany the RS1 helped establish the relationship between natural materials and the Grado sound.
At the center of the RS1 is Grado’s 50mm X2 dynamic driver utilizing a Mylar diaphragm, copper voice coil, and rare earth magnetic system.
The tuning emphasizes expressive midrange detail and musical immediacy.
The RS1 incorporates Grado’s Signature Gold headband assembly representing the most refined mechanical platform used across the Classic Series.
The system features engraved aluminum alloy gimbals, stainless steel height rods, and reinforced aluminum junction blocks designed to improve structural stability and long-term durability while maintaining controlled rotation for proper alignment.
A genuine leather headstrap with contrasting white stitching provides comfort during extended listening sessions, while the internal steel spring band allows listeners to easily adjust clamping pressure for a personalized fit.
The RS1 is supplied with Grado’s Signature Silver cable offering reduced weight and improved flexibility.
The RS1 ships standard with Grado L cushions reinforcing a focused and immediate presentation.
Like all Grado cushions they also act as a tuning element allowing listeners to personalize their listening experience.
The RS1 features a tri-wood housing constructed from Cocobolo, hemp, and maple.
Each material contributes unique acoustic properties combining density, damping, and structural stability to create a layered and controlled presentation.
