Reviewers find the SuperSub X potent, clean and unusually detailed for its compact dimensions, with strong in-room output approaching 20Hz in one medium-sized room. It delivers devastating movie effects and bone-jarring impact, although Home Cinema Choice heard some sluggishness on fast techno and less sharply defined kick-drum beats than the best alternatives.

In a medium-sized theater, the SuperSub X was said to couple well with the room, providing smooth response and even coverage while filling the space at appropriate levels. Home Cinema Choice also found film effects visceral and believable rather than overblown or out of scale, though its occasional loss of low-end cohesion at very high tempo limits the sense of complete effortlessness.

The compact GoldenEar produces notably forceful cinematic dynamics: reviewers describe it as thrillingly ballistic, able to load a room and hit much harder than its size suggests. It also combines that physical impact with good low-level subtlety, although extra headroom from adding a second unit further improved impact and seat-to-seat consistency.

The cabinet is described as built like a small tank, with substantial weight and no audible cabinet vibration even under severe provocation. Reviewers also praise its solid construction and furniture-grade, Art-Deco-inspired finish.

Its compact enclosure can make placement and multi-sub deployment easier, and it includes DSP control, auto signal sensing, LFE input, and adjustable line-level low-pass filtering. However, Home Cinema Choice notes the absence of high-level inputs, phase control and remote control, while rivals at this price may add onboard EQ.

At its original $1,249 price, Audioholics considered it in line with other high-performance ultra-compact competitors. The value case is tempered by Home Cinema Choice, which found the feature set somewhat sparse next to the slightly pricier SVS SB-13 with onboard EQ.
