Pros

Highly resolving, clear presentation with strong instrument separation and naturally extended treble.

Punchy, weighty bass and an expansive, immersive soundstage that complements varied headphones.

Selectable digital filters make meaningful, audible changes to tonal balance, clarity and spatial scale.

Extensive connectivity, responsive touchscreen control and DAC, preamp and headphone-amplifier functionality in one unit.

Cons

Its upfront, clarity-led balance is not the best match for listeners seeking a warm, laid-back DAC presentation.

The headphone stage provides only a 4.4mm balanced output, so single-ended headphones require the supplied adapter.

What Reviewers Are Saying

"if you like the Delta Sigma sound this is honestly as good as it gets"

— Amplify Audio Reviews

"it just wants you to feel like you're listening to music in a room like there's no gear involved and that's exactly what it does"

— MajorHifi

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 92/100

Reviewers describe a clear, organic and highly resolving presentation with substantial bass impact and an unusually expansive stereo image. Its character leans toward vivid clarity and scale without being reported as overly warm or constrained.

Tonal Balance and Musicality

92/100

MajorHifi found everything "clear and smooth," with a natural, organic presentation that never felt too warm, and called it "perfect" for listeners seeking that combination. Amplify Audio Reviews heard a more crystalline, robust and bass-forward flavor, suggesting an energetic rather than strictly neutral voicing.

Resolution and Detail

95/100

MajorHifi praised the separation and resolution, saying individual instruments remain easy to follow and treble has room to extend naturally. Amplify Audio Reviews called it "mad resolving" and said it was as resolving as any DAC heard around the $5,000 price point, with exceptional midrange clarity.

Digital Performance

88/100

MajorHifi described the ES9038PRO implementation as organic and detailed, an encouraging result for a converter often associated with a more explicit presentation. Amplify Audio Reviews also found the selectable filters make tangible audible changes, though the supplied reviews do not specifically address noise floor, jitter, or measured performance.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

84/100

Amplify Audio Reviews specifically praised the responsive touchscreen interface, including its quick muting operation. The supplied reviews say little about chassis construction, internal layout, power supply design, or long-term durability.

Features Connectivity

83/100

The WANDLA HP offers a notably broad digital input set: USB-C, AES, coaxial, optical, I2S and HDMI ARC, alongside balanced XLR and RCA analog outputs. Its touchscreen adds useful day-to-day control, while the review material does not establish format support such as DSD or MQA.

Value for Money

95/100

At $3,295, Amplify Audio Reviews called it a "banger" and stated that buyers would not find a better delta-sigma DAC at roughly $3,300. That is especially strong praise in a competitive upper-mid/high-end DAC market, reinforced by the reviewer's comparison of its resolving ability with products around $5,000.

Manufacturer's Description — Ferrum

Ferrum latest family member of WANDLA, WANDLA HP

Ferrum’s journey up the hifi chain brought them HYPSOS, their revolutionary hybrid power system, OOR, their flagship headphone amplifier, ERCO, their entry level DAC and WANDLA, their flagship DAC. What these products have in common is their upgradeability with HYPSOS. WANDLA HP resides comfortably in the space between entry and super flagship level for headphone enthusiasts.

WANDLA HP essentially is WANDLA with a great sounding headphone amplifier. It will satisfy those who are seeking more than ERCO has to offer but are not ready for WANDLA in combination with OOR, being the super flagship option. Incorporating all great options and specifications from WANDLA, Ferrum’s engineers integrated a powerful, and fully balanced composite IC headphone amplifier at the quality levels that come very close to those of OOR. As with all of Ferrum’s gear, you can reach for the stars by combining WANDLA HP with HYPSOS. It has the looks, it’s all about the music, and it’s a guaranteed head-turner.

Now your original WANDLA HP just got more desirable! We are excited to introduce WANDLA GoldenSound Edition Converting Plugin for the WANDLA HP.
