Edifier S880DB MKII
The S880DB MKII brings surprisingly deep, controlled bass, a smooth, revealing treble and expansive nearfield imaging to a compact powered design. Prime Audio Reviews found its clean, neutral balance especially impressive, while LDAC, USB-C, optical, analogue inputs and a subwoofer output make it a remarkably versatile desktop or small-room hi-fi hub.

Pros
Delivers punchy, tightly controlled bass with impressive depth for compact 3.75-inch-driver speakers.
Clear, smooth, non-fatiguing treble and a clean midrange support strong detail and long listening sessions.
Open soundstage and precise imaging make vocals and instruments easy to place, particularly in nearfield use.
Extensive connectivity—including LDAC Bluetooth, USB-C, optical, coaxial, dual RCA inputs and subwoofer output—suits varied systems.
Cons
Touch-sensitive puck remote can be unresponsive and prone to accidental commands, making frequent volume or input changes frustrating.
Rear port placement can make bass sound bloated when speakers sit too close to a wall.
Dynamic and Classic EQ modes can overboost bass and treble; Monitor mode is the more neutral choice.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 90/100
Reviewers consistently describe a clean, broadly neutral and unusually mature presentation for such compact powered speakers. The S880DB MKII is praised for controlled, punchy bass, clear mids, smooth treble and spacious imaging, while remaining effective at low volume and in nearfield listening.
Bass
90/100
For a compact speaker using 3.75-inch mid-bass drivers, reviewers found the bass notably deep, punchy and controlled, reaching to around 50Hz without becoming loose or bloated. Home Theater Review and The Audiophile Man both describe unexpectedly substantial low-end weight, though it is not intended to shake a room.
Mid
90/100
The midrange is described as clean, balanced and informative, with vocals clearly placed and instruments well separated. The Audiophile Man also found the upper midrange nimble, while Home Theater Review noted a cleaner midband than earlier S880 versions.
Treble
90/100
Reviewers praise a crisp, revealing top end that remains smooth, controlled and free of fatigue. There is good shimmer, clarity and insight into quieter details, although The Audiophile Man found rival AMT-equipped speakers offered greater ultimate delicacy and detail.
Soundstage Imaging
91/100
The speakers are repeatedly credited with an open, spacious presentation that exceeds expectations for their small cabinets. Reviews report wide imaging, convincing depth and precise placement of voices and instruments, with a presentation that works well in small to medium rooms.
Dynamics
88/100
The S880DB MKII is said to deliver satisfying punch when the music calls for it and to handle film dynamic swings better than many compact alternatives. Review coverage of outright high-volume headroom is limited, but listeners found it lively and composed in normal-room, nearfield and low-volume use.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
88/100
Reviewers describe the speakers as solid and premium for the price, with cabinet stiffness aided by the substantial wooden side panels. The metal tweeter grille and aluminium driver diaphragm also offer useful physical protection, although there is limited commentary on long-term durability.
Value for Money
93/100
At the commonly cited street prices of roughly $260 to $300, reviewers consider the S880DB MKII exceptionally compelling against entry-level monitors and more expensive compact systems. The $449 retail price is less persuasive, but the stated $299.99 to $369 range still pairs strong sound with extensive connectivity and a subwoofer output.
