Edifier R1700BT
The R1700BT brings full-bodied desktop sound from a compact, forward-tilted cabinet, pairing excellent mids and highs with bass that exceeds expectations for its 4-inch drivers. Adjustable bass and treble controls let listeners fine-tune the presentation, while seamless Bluetooth adds everyday ease. HomeTheaterHifi found it an especially compelling near-field all-in-one.

Pros
Compact near-field design delivers clear, full sound with excellent midrange and treble.
Bass is more substantial than expected from the 4-inch drivers, particularly at higher volumes.
Side-mounted bass and treble controls provide useful tailoring, and Bluetooth operation was seamless in review.
Strong value for an entry-level desktop system, with better sound said to require pricier separates.
Cons
The proprietary inter-speaker cable is thick, may be too short for some layouts, and could be difficult to replace.
Default tone settings were described as flat and stale until the bass and treble controls were raised.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 85/100
The R1700BT is described as compact but satisfyingly full sounding, with especially positive comments on its midrange, treble and unexpectedly substantial low end. It responds well to its onboard tone controls, while the available review offers less detail about stereo imaging than it does tonal balance.
Bass
86/100
The reviewer expected little from the 4-inch mid-bass driver but was pleasantly surprised by how pronounced the bass was. For a compact desktop-oriented speaker, it appears to deliver more weight than its size suggests, especially after bass adjustment.
Mid
88/100
Vocals and mid-bass are said to hold the advantage at lower listening levels, suggesting a clear and present midband. The reviewer also directly describes the midrange as excellent.
Treble
88/100
High frequencies are directly praised as excellent, with the treble control allowing some extra lift to suit personal taste. The reviewer does not report glare or harshness.
Soundstage Imaging
78/100
The angled cabinet is intended to aim the tweeters toward the listener, and the reviewer finds the near-field presentation clear. However, the review says little about soundstage width, depth, image placement or the speakers' ability to disappear.
Dynamics
84/100
The reviewer found the R1700BT sounding even better at higher volume, a promising sign for a compact powered desktop speaker. There is little further discussion of large-scale dynamic headroom or impact.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
82/100
The review praises the unusually careful protective packaging, noting that it exceeds that of competing speakers at this price. The forward-tilted cabinet is also a purposeful desktop design touch, though there is little direct commentary on cabinet finish, internal construction or long-term durability.
Value for Money
93/100
At the reviewed $180 price, the R1700BT is called a top pick for a roughly $200 entry-level system. The reviewer argues that meaningfully better sound would require moving to separates and spending substantially more, making Edifier's package particularly compelling against similarly priced alternatives.
