Edifier R1280DB

For a compact 4-inch woofer design, reviewers found that a moderate bass adjustment adds pleasing depth without making the presentation muddy or overly thick. The bass control is also said to avoid bleeding noticeably into the midrange.

The stock voicing is rich and warm, with an emphasis toward lower-midrange body. The reviewer did not find this warmth unpleasant or excessively thick, making it well suited to relaxed, forgiving listening.

Adding treble can bring out extra clarity and perceived detail without turning the sound tinny or harsh. This suggests a smooth top end that remains listenable rather than aggressively bright.

With a higher-quality source feeding the speakers, the reviewer heard a significantly wider stage, sharper imaging, and stronger transparency. The available evidence also indicates that source quality has a meaningful influence on these results.

The R1280DB had no difficulty filling a moderate-to-large dining room with substantial sound. It maintained clean output without needing to be pushed into distortion or harshness, an especially welcome trait at this size and price.

The reviewer is clear that this is a cheaply made speaker, with finish details that fall short of more expensive alternatives. It is not described as poorly made, but its budget construction is apparent on close inspection.

At roughly $140, the reviewer calls the R1280DB a great option and says buyers “really can't go wrong.” Against competing entry-level powered speakers, its combination of enjoyable sound, room-filling output, Bluetooth, digital inputs, and useful tone controls makes it a notably compelling buy.
