Edifier P12

The compact 116mm bass driver produces enough low end at higher volumes to satisfy most contemporary music. Listeners who want the deepest hip-hop, drum-and-bass, or heavily boosted bass will still want a subwoofer.

The review finds midband detail to remain fairly consistent as volume rises. There is little further commentary on vocal timbre, tonal warmth, or midrange realism.

Detail into the top end is reported to remain fairly consistent, suggesting a composed presentation rather than an obviously rough or congested one. The review offers little direct detail about treble air, refinement, or brightness.

Stereo imaging is praised for excellent width and depth, with a generously sized listening sweet spot. The trade-off is less precise positional focus, so individual musicians are not pinpointed as sharply as with more exacting speakers.

The review indicates that the P12 can play loudly enough to deliver satisfying low-end output for mainstream music. It says little about large-scale dynamic swings, transient attack, or composure at demanding levels.

The cabinet is unusually well specified for the price, with real-wood veneer, curved panels, edge bracing, internal damping, and a proper crossover using substantial components. Internal cabling is also praised, although the basic spring-clip terminals limit cable thickness and are the reviewer's main hardware complaint.

At the reviewed price of £80 per pair, the P12 is described as a genuine bargain and a real hi-fi loudspeaker rather than a compromised budget product. The reviewer considers its cabinet work, crossover, and enjoyable sound unusually strong against affordable rivals.
