Dunu Vulkan

Headphonesty found deep bass tracks capable of visceral, chesty rumble when a proper seal is achieved, while praising the texture, speed and lack of mid-bass bleed. Other reviewers similarly heard a sub-bass-focused presentation with authoritative kick-drum impact, controlled punch and good bass texture.

The midrange is generally described as clear, smooth and tonally balanced, with little reported shoutiness, honk or unwanted warmth. Vocals can be a touch recessed or less clear than certain rivals, however, particularly when instruments occupy the foreground.

Reviewers praise the Vulkan's brilliance, sparkle and upper-frequency clarity, and one listener found its balance very enjoyable without sharpness. Still, multiple reviews note a 7-8 kHz emphasis that can bring occasional sibilance and splashy cymbals, even if it is not usually painful.

Instrument separation, layering and air are widely praised, with reviewers finding individual elements easy to follow in busy material and competitive games. Fine detail and bass texturing are good, but Headphonesty and WaveTheory stop short of calling microdetail class-leading at the price.

Several reviewers highlight an unusually spacious, holographic stage with strong width, height and audible depth. Positional cues and layering were especially impressive for gaming, although WaveTheory heard less convincing depth and a somewhat three-blob lateral image in music.

Drums have quick snap, the low end supplies satisfying slam, and reviewers describe an engaging sense of macro-dynamic fun. Headphonesty also found that better amplification tightened and extended the bass while improving dynamics, though the reviews provide less direct discussion of driver integration.

A good seal is important to unlocking the Vulkan's deep bass response, and reviewers explicitly obtained strong results with AZLA SednaEarfit and Oslo Crystal tips. No reviewer reports recurring instability, but the dependence of bass quantity on seal makes tip selection worthwhile.

Headphonesty called the ergonomics top-notch and reported no discomfort despite the shell size, while Tone Deaf Monk also found fit very comfortable. The shells are somewhat large, and WaveTheory preferred shorter sessions of roughly one-and-a-half to two hours rather than extended critical listening.

Headphonesty reports above-average isolation despite the vented construction and considers the Vulkan well suited to outdoor use. The supplied reviews do not identify meaningful isolation shortcomings.

The machined aluminum shells are consistently described as solid, attractively sculpted and light for their size. Dunu's modular MMCX cable receives particularly strong praise for its quality and 2.5 mm, 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm terminations, while the case, useful adapter and broad tip selection make the package genuinely versatile.

At roughly $380-400, reviewers regard the Vulkan as a serious mid-priced purchase rather than a bargain. One reviewer felt the price seemed fair, while another simply noted that it is not cheap; the generous modular cable and accessory set strengthen the ownership proposition.
