The Classic AMP is the latest update to an integrated amplifier that has been part of the Cyrus product range for over a decade.

This integrated amplifier provides a significant step up in performance from previous versions by using everything that we learnt when developing the fantastic XR Series, but retaining the familiar design of the Classic series. The circuit design has been completely re-designed and the majority of the internal components have been upgraded by the Cyrus R&D team, which has resulted in sound improvements that will help the Classic series retain a loyal fan base for years to come.

The power amplifier delivers 91W per channel into 6Ω. The wideband design responds from D.C. to beyond 50kHz to ensure a flat frequency response and minimal phase shift through the audio band.

The analogue preamp features relay input selection for the five analogue inputs and a precision gain control for volume. The design is intentionally wide bandwidth.

The power supply includes a 304VA toroidal power transformer delivering power to a high capacity power supply reserve. The preamplifier power supply is electrically separated from the power amplifier and driven from its own transformer winding. Digital control circuits are assigned a separate mains power supply, completely isolated from the signal circuitry.

The Classic AMP includes a port for the PSX-R power supply. Power from the PSX-R is routed internally to the analogue stages of the preamplifier to provide a more stable, low-noise power supply for the analogue preamp and post-DAC stages of the D/A converter.

Cyrus Audio Classic AMP — compact British engineering with grown-up sound

The Cyrus Audio Classic AMP distils Cyrus's long-running design language into a compact, well-equipped Class A/B integrated amplifier with a built-in DAC and MM phono stage. It blends a taut, controlled bass with a clean, detailed treble and a neutral midband for excellent clarity and punch; reviewers link that character to its measured headroom and short signal paths. The chassis and finish underline a British-made solidity, while onboard connectivity (analogue, MM phono, coaxial and optical inputs, pre-out and headphone jack) makes it a flexible centerpiece for vinyl and digital systems. As observed by Martijn (redacteur) and placed in context by Roger Kanno, the Classic AMP is ideal for listeners seeking a compact, well-built amp with transparent, dynamic performance and room to grow via Cyrus power-supply upgrades.

"When powering up the amplifier, the green display proudly shows “Made in Britain”."

Pros

  • Solid, premium British build—magnesium/alloy chassis and tidy engineering convey durability and refinement.
  • Generous connectivity for hybrid systems: 4 analogue inputs, MM phono, 2× coaxial and 2× optical digital inputs, plus pre-out and headphone jack.
  • Controlled, dynamic Class A/B performance with measured output and headroom that supports punchy bass and precise transients.
  • Forward-looking upgrade path—PSX-R/PSX-R2 power-supply compatibility and firmware port allow future enhancements.

Cons

  • Cyrus's multiple ranges and model variations can make system matching and part selection confusing for newcomers.

Sound Quality

86/100

Dynamics

86/100

Measured output in the review is substantial for a Class AB: 103 W at 4 ohm and 53 W at 8 ohm, matching the manufacturer's class/expectations and suggesting solid headroom and control. No reviewer complaints about clipping or lack of headroom were reported, so dynamics are rated at the high end of the Class AB medium-power band.

Soundstage Imaging

85/100

The review does not specifically comment on staging or imaging; given the amplifier's topology and measured performance, a stable and well-focused soundstage is expected. With no explicit praise or criticism, a slightly-above-neutral score reflects probable good channel separation and image stability.

Build Quality

90/100

Reviewer highlights distinctive Cyrus design and a magnesium-alloy exterior, notes 'Made in Britain' on the display, and reports a solid 6.7 kg chassis — all evidence of high-quality construction and attention to materials and finish. The visible attention to build and chassis materials supports a strong score for craftsmanship and thermal/mechanical design.

Features Connectivity

90/100

Well-equipped: 4x analogue inputs, MM phono input, 2x coaxial and 2x optical digital inputs, built-in DAC, unbalanced preamp outputs and a 3.5 mm headphone jack; also PSX-R upgrade connectivity and firmware port. That combination puts it firmly in the well-featured category for an integrated amp, hence a high score.

Value for Money

86/100

Reviewer lists the price (€2,395) and notes the optional PSX-R power supply (€1,195) but offers no explicit value judgment. With price disclosed but no strong praise or complaint, a neutral-to-positive baseline score is appropriate relative to its segment and features.
