Cayin R01 R-2R Audio Motherboard

Currawong calls the R01 more “musical” and “organic,” saying instruments sound more natural and cymbals “absolutely fantastic.” The reviewer repeatedly describes it as pleasant and real-sounding, even reporting that its unfatiguing presentation made for deeply relaxed listening.

The reviewer does not feel that essential musical information is missing and notes greater depth and spaciousness with high-quality recordings. However, they explicitly qualify that it may not deliver “super levels of detail,” so ultimate resolution is not its central strength.

The R01’s conversion is heard as natural and convincingly music-like rather than overtly digital or sterile. Review evidence is less specific about noise floor, jitter, glare, or measured performance, but the consistently smooth and realistic presentation is clearly positive.

The review notes that Cayin commissioned custom resistors with specific values for the module, indicating purposeful component selection. Reviewers say little about chassis construction, internal layout, long-term durability, or power-supply implementation.

As a motherboard for the N6ii platform, the R01 includes headphone-driving capability, with output said to be sufficient for full-size headphones at moderate levels. Connectivity is limited by the lack of a dedicated line output, and the review provides little evidence of extensive digital-input or format-support options.

At $449, the R01 is positioned as a premium upgrade module for the N6ii rather than a complete standalone DAC. The reviewer calls it “fantastic,” but does not directly compare its price with alternatives or make a clear value-for-money judgment.
