Canvas CANVAS SOLO
CANVAS SOLO — a living-room speaker that thinks like high‑end hi‑fi
The CANVAS SOLO pairs sculptural Scandinavian design with a purpose-built acoustic engine to deliver deep, controlled bass, clear midrange and wide, three‑dimensional stereo imaging. As Howard Kneller observed at an early demo, the SOLO produces convincing 3D images and surprisingly authoritative low end for a single-box TV companion.
Sound signature & performance
Dual 6.5" long‑excursion drivers, two precision passive radiators and DSP tuned via Klippel combine with BACCH 3D processing to give a taut low end, natural vocal presence and expansive soundstage. Reviewers repeatedly praise imaging and tonal balance while noting the product prioritises musicality over gimmicky surround formats; HiFi Choice highlights the roomy, lifelike presentation.
Build, features & use
Canvas’s 24‑litre braced MDF cabinet, magnetic interchangeable fronts and extensive streaming/HDMI eARC connectivity make the SOLO both furniture and full‑featured active speaker. The unit’s app‑based room correction and Burr‑Brown DACs round out a polished package that suits audiophiles who want a refined, all‑in‑one TV partner and dedicated two‑channel music system.
In short: CANVAS SOLO is an elegant, high‑resolution solution for listeners who value fidelity, imaging and premium fit‑and‑finish in one box.

Pros
Powerful, well‑controlled low end from dual 6.5" drivers and large passive radiators — delivers subwoofer‑like weight without a sub.
Impressive stereo imaging and convincing 3D presentation thanks to BACCH 3D/DSP tuning — creates a wide, natural soundstage.
Premium build, service‑friendly construction and interchangeable magnetic fronts give high‑end feel and long‑term value.
Comprehensive modern connectivity and processing — HDMI eARC, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Roon/Tidal support plus app room‑correction and Burr‑Brown DACs.
Cons
Macro dynamics and peak crescendo impact can feel slightly restrained compared with the very top‑tier home‑theatre systems.
Companion app and room‑correction experience is uneven across platforms; Android/setup issues and reliance on an iPhone or optional mic were reported.
No Dolby Atmos decoding or dedicated subwoofer output — a deliberate stereo design choice that limits traditional multichannel expansion.

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 92/100
Bass
94/100
Dual 6.5" long-excursion drivers with two large passive radiators in a 24 L cabinet; manufacturer claims 30 Hz extension and radiating area equivalent to a 12" driver. DSP/Klippel tuning and efficient amp complement suggest strong, controlled low end for a mid-sized tower. No independent measurements available, so score reflects generous interpretation of the documented design and claimed in-room extension.
Mid
92/100
Two high-end SB Acoustics paper-cone 6.5" bass/midranges and DSP tuned crossovers (Klippel) point to accurate, coherent midrange and well-behaved crossover region. Silk-dome tweeters and waveguide integration support natural vocal presence and timbral consistency. Score assumes manufacturer's crossover/measurement claims translate to real-world neutrality.
Treble
92/100
29 mm SB Acoustics silk domes with Canvas-designed waveguide and DSP tuning indicate smooth, extended treble with low harshness. The stated 20 kHz upper response and careful waveguide design support detail and controlled dispersion. No reviewer reports to confirm, so rating is generous based on parts and DSP implementation.
Soundstage Imaging
92/100
Stereo floorstanding layout, waveguided tweeters and BACCH 3D filter/DSP room-correction imply strong width, depth and stable imaging in typical living-room setups. Hybrid floor/wall mounting and adjustable grilles help placement/room integration. Score assumes the room-correction and waveguide work effectively in practice.
Dynamics
90/100
Four-channel Class D amps (250 W total) and efficient radiating area should deliver lively micro- and macro-dynamics and good SPL for living-room use. The relatively compact cabinet volume compared with large reference towers suggests excellent dynamic punch but somewhat limited absolute headroom versus much larger designs. DSP and efficient drivers mitigate typical class-D reservations.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
94/100
Rock-solid 24 L MDF cabinet with Canvas BridgeBrace technology, heavy overall weight (35–38 kg) and multiple premium finish/grille options indicate high-end construction. Interchangeable magnetic grilles and service-friendly design (3-year warranty, hardware upgradable) reinforce premium build and attention to serviceability.
Features Connectivity
96/100
Extensive modern connectivity: HDMI eARC, Toslink, analog in, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Roon, Spotify/Tidal/DLNA, Burr-Brown 24/192 DACs, OTA updates, app-based room correction (iPhone or Zen Mic) and DSP/Klippel tuning. The unit is effectively an active, networked floorstander with comprehensive AV/streaming support and room-correction — top-tier feature set for the category.
Value for Money
80/100
Price band (4,499–6,849 EUR) places the SOLO in the premium segment. Given the high-quality drivers, DSP/Klippel tuning, room correction, premium finishes and strong feature set, the product offers competitive value for buyers wanting an all-in-one high-end living-room solution, but the premium asking price prevents a higher score without independent comparative reviews.

- 4 channel Class D HiFi amps with a total of 250 watts, but with greater sound pressure than traditional soundbars with 1000 watts. Many customers have wondered why CANVAS HiFi plays deeper and more powerfully than traditional soundbars, which indicate they have a much higher power output amplifier. A large number of factors comes into play here, but an essential factor is that CANVAS has a whopping 24 liters of effective acoustic volume, in combination with 2 x 6.5" bass/midrange drivers and 2 x 5x8" slave bass drivers, which gives 592 cm2 radiating surface area, which corresponds to a 12" bass driver. CANVAS HiFi is therefore highly efficient, and plays louder and with more bass than traditional soundbars
