Pros
Exceptional deep, powerful and rich bass brings subwoofer-like scale and tactile presence for the price.
Smoothly integrated drivers deliver a big, warm, energetic presentation with full-bodied vocals and satisfying dynamics.
Flexible partnering: it remained full, warm and dynamic with both modest and high-end amplification.
Solid, well-braced cabinet construction impressed the reviewer with greater-than-expected inertness.
Cons
Bass can become excessive and obscure finer midrange and treble detail if positioned too close to a wall or corner.
The darker, deliberately relaxed treble and broad presentation sacrifice some midrange precision, sparkle and analytical clarity.
Vinyl finish and visible rear cabinet join are less refined than some similarly priced alternatives.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 92/100
The GLE 90 S2 is described as a big, energetic and warmly balanced speaker with notably full bass and smoothly integrated drivers. Its presentation favours easy, enveloping musicality over a bright or aggressively analytical sound.
Bass
96/100
The reviewer's strongest praise is for the bass, calling it exceptional for the size and price, with deep extension, power and presence. It is said to sound full, rich and warm enough to give the system some of the scale associated with adding a subwoofer.
Mid
92/100
Vocals are described as large in the room, tonally full and carrying a strong sense of occasion. The reviewer also praises the way the drivers integrate, contributing to a smooth and cohesive presentation through the midrange.
Treble
89/100
Treble is finely detailed, dynamic and notably relaxed, with sufficient height and air for the overall presentation. It is intentionally more restrained than crisp or sparkling, however, so listeners seeking a forward, explicitly brilliant top end may want more bite.
Soundstage Imaging
87/100
The speaker is said to create an encapsulating sound, and additional toe-out opened up more space between the cabinets. Placement appears to make a worthwhile difference to stage openness, while the review offers limited detail on image precision or depth layering.
Dynamics
91/100
The Cantons are described as energetic, with one demanding track sounding big, punchy, full and highly satisfying. The reviewer also characterises the tweeter as dynamic, supporting a lively but never aggressive overall delivery.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
91/100
The reviewer was impressed by the cabinet construction, finding it more inert than expected in a tap test. Its substantial weight and apparent internal bracing support the impression of a solidly engineered enclosure.
Value for Money
90/100
At €699 per speaker, the GLE 90 S2 is presented as an affordable high-end option, with bass performance singled out as exceptional at this price. The reviewer notes strong competition in the segment, but considers buyers to be in a good place whichever leading option they choose.

GLE 90 S2
The GLE Series from Canton has established itself over the years as an absolute audience favorite, and its latest generation impressively demonstrates why. Led by the elegant and powerful 3-way floor-standing speakers, the GLE 90 S2, this series combines the finest technology with a particularly living-room-friendly format. Experience dynamic, powerful sound paired with audiophile detail, making it the perfect entry into the world of high-quality hi-fi and home cinema sound – all at an exceptional price-performance ratio.
Advanced sound Technology
At the heart of the GLE 90 S2 are completely redesigned ATB (Aluminum Titanium Black) chassis. The 192mm woofers deliver a powerful and deep bass with excellent impulse fidelity. A 174mm ATB midrange driver ensures outstanding clarity, dynamics, and precise vocal reproduction. The system is complemented by a new AB (Aluminum Black) tweeter with a 25mm dome and an elaborate waveguide that optimizes sound dispersion and provides brilliant highs up to 40,000 Hz – even off-axis from the listening position.
Clear Design Meets Functionality
With a height of just 105 cm, a width of 21 cm, and a depth of 30 cm, the GLE 90 S2 present themselves as slim floor-standing speakers with a strong aesthetic presence. Their harmonious proportions and minimalist design seamlessly integrate into any living space. Available in various finishes such as white, black, Makassar, and walnut, they adapt to any interior style. Oval, magnetically attached fabric covers in black or white complete the elegant appearance and provide a clean front.
Teamplayer
The GLE 90 S2 are not only impressive stereo speakers but also highly flexible for integration into multi-channel systems. They can be ideally combined with other models from the GLE S2 series, such as the GLE 50 S2 as a center speaker or the GLE 30 S2 as a surround speaker, complemented by the Power Sub 12 S2 for deep bass. For a wireless home cinema and streaming experience, the GLE 90 S2 can also be connected to the Canton Smart Amp 5.1, which replaces a classic AV receiver and offers maximum connectivity with minimal space requirements.
