What Reviewers Are Saying

"Many of the albums I have had in my collection for nearly four decades sound more lively than before."

— HiFi.nl

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 84/100

The supplied listening impression is positive, reporting that long-owned albums sounded more lively than before. There is no extracted commentary on fine detail, soundstage, tonal extremes, or digital noise performance, so the broader sonic picture remains limited.

Tonal Balance Musicality

86/100

HiFi.nl found familiar albums to sound more lively through the CD 2N, suggesting an engaging and musically involving presentation. The available excerpt does not further describe tonal warmth, treble smoothness, bass weight, or long-session comfort.

Resolution Detail

82/100

The supplied review excerpt does not directly discuss low-level detail, separation, spatial layering, or retrieval of recorded ambience. Its observation that familiar music felt more alive is encouraging, but it is not enough to establish a more specific resolution profile.

Digital Performance

82/100

No supplied listening comments address background quietness, jitter, conversion quality, or freedom from digital glare and artifacts. The review reports a positive overall musical result, without identifying any digital-performance shortcomings.

FEATURES USABILITY PERFORMANCE 84/100

This is a focused CD player rather than a network-streaming source, and the available material does not report operational problems. Its analog and digital connections provide useful system flexibility, while navigation, remote behavior, and day-to-day disc operation are not discussed in the supplied review.

Streaming Software

83/100

The CD 2N is a disc player and does not use a streaming platform. The supplied review gives no information about remote control, display navigation, loading behavior, or other everyday interface matters.

Features Connectivity

86/100

Connection options are strong for a dedicated CD player, with XLR and RCA analog outputs plus AES/EBU, coaxial, and optical digital outputs. A BNC Word Clock input adds useful flexibility for systems built around an external digital clock.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

83/100

The CD 2N is a substantial 14 kg player and includes professional-minded provisions such as a Word Clock input, but the supplied review does not offer hands-on comments about casework, controls, mechanism behavior, or long-term reliability. Reviewers therefore say little about its physical execution beyond the published specifications.

Value for Money

85/100

At $8,998, the CD 2N sits in a premium dedicated-player segment and offers balanced analog output, multiple digital outputs, and Word Clock provision. The supplied review does not compare its price with rivals or directly assess whether its performance represents strong value.

Manufacturer's Description — C.E.C.

CD 2N CD player from C.E.C.

High-end from Japan with the patented double belt drive, which, in combination with an audiophile ESS converter chip from the new SABRE PRO series, raises this CD player to a previously unimagined sound level.

C.E.C. CD 2N

Thanks to its patented double belt drive in combination with an audiophile ESS converter chip from the new SABRE PRO series, the new CD 2N plays extremely audiophile at a previously unimagined sound level; extremely “analog” due to its audibly relaxed smoothness, musical, authentic, detailed and neutral in the best sense of the word. A masterpiece conceived and produced by the C.E.C. Engineers and employees in Japan. C.E.C. is considered one of the oldest and most renowned Japanese hi-fi manufacturers - and has been for over 70 years.

The built-in D/A converter plays at the highest level and the CD 2N offers the option of a WordClock input to audibly refine the digital signals using a clock generator. Thanks to two selectable filters, the sound image can be varied; “Flat” sounds a little more appealing and dynamic, “Pulse” a little softer but more detailed. There is also the option of upsampling the native CD signal from 16 bit / 44.1 kHz to 24bit / 88.2kHz or 176.4kHz, depending on your personal listening preferences.
