Border Patrol S20EXD PARALLEL SINGLE-ENDED AMPLIFIER
The S20EXD marries lifelike imaging, rich tonal texture, and startlingly assured 18-watt Class A drive. Twittering Machines found its parallel-300B design natural, graceful, and dynamically authoritative, projecting fully formed performers beyond the loudspeakers. With dual-mono construction, interstage transformers, and unusually firm control, it is a deeply involving amplifier for sympathetic high-efficiency systems.

Pros
Creates exceptionally natural, tactile musical presence with richly textured, fully voiced images.
Delivers convincing power, scale, control, and rhythmic dynamics without the soft or bloated character often associated with 300B amplifiers.
Projects a spacious, detached soundstage that reproduces convincing time, place, and spatial depth.
Dual-mono, point-to-point-wired construction ran silently in the review system.
Cons
Requires careful speaker matching: BorderPatrol recommends speakers above 90dB sensitivity with impedance that does not fall below 4 ohms.
The $22,500 starting price excludes 300B tubes, increasing the investment for a complete setup.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 95/100
The review describes an unusually natural, immediate and emotionally involving presentation that turns recorded material into vividly present music. It combines finely rendered textures and expansive, detached images with firm rhythmic control, challenging assumptions about parallel 300B amplification.
Transparency Resolution
94/100
The reviewer praises the amplifier’s openness and its “delicate rich reach out and touch it precision” across a dense blend of natural, electronic and enhanced sounds. Instruments and voices are described as richly textured and fully voiced rather than softened or blurred.
Tonal Balance Musicality
96/100
This is the review’s strongest theme: the S20EXD is called natural, effortless and graceful, with a beauty that reaches beyond analytical listening. Across many genres, it is said to transform reproduced sound into living, breathing musical presence.
Dynamics
93/100
Despite its 18-watt parallel single-ended 300B design, the amplifier is reported to deliver power, control, scale and convincing dynamics without sounding soft, warm or bloated. It held onto every note and stayed locked to the beat during demanding music.
Soundstage Imaging
96/100
The S20EXD is praised as a master of reproducing time, place and space, creating lifelike physical forms with striking immediacy. Images reportedly detach from the speakers and extend beyond the apparent limits of the listening room.

Build Quality
90/100
The S20EXD uses a dual-mono, point-to-point-wired layout with interstage transformers, NOS Sylvania input valves, and two Western Electric 300B output tubes per channel in parallel single-ended Class A operation. The review sample also ran silently even with an ear close to the drivers, though the review offers little long-term ownership or durability commentary.
Value for Money
85/100
The stated starting price is $22,500 without 300B tubes, with an optional volume control adding $500. The review makes an exceptionally strong case for its musical performance, but does not directly compare its value with similarly priced amplifiers or comment on whether the asking price is justified.

Manufacturer's Description — Border Patrol
The BorderPatrol S10EXD gives 8 Class A watts per channel from a single 300B output tube in single-ended configuration.
The combination of extended bandwidth married to excellent dynamics and a magic mid-range make the S10 both capable and musically communicative whilst the twin external power supply units give mono-block like sound staging, complete channel independence and bass control and dynamics not normally associated with amplifiers of this type.
Clear, clean, fluid, extended, tonally rich and natural are all adjectives used to describe the performance of this fine amplifier.
Marrying finesse and sophistication to dynamics not usually found in SET amplifiers, the BorderPatrol S10EXD is a fine musical transportation device.
Recommended loudspeaker efficiency >95dB/watt for best performance.
The BorderPatrol S10 EXD features inter-stage transformer coupling, twin external power supply units (PSU’s), hard wiring, a chassis made from copper and wood, and cryogenic treatments to the amp and PSU’s. Each PSU contains three independent tube rectified, choke input filter supplies, for 300B H.T. driver tube H.T. and 300B bias.
